A 60-foot flatbed truck crashed into the Boston Common Thursday afternoon, blocking some traffic as emergency officials responded to the scene. According to the Associated Press, the truck had brake trouble, which sent the cab down a set of stairs leading to the Common. District Fire Chief Kevin Brooks says the accident occurred Thursday after the out-of-state truck driver got lost and wound up in the citys congested Beacon Hill neighborhood.
Brooks says a police officer was trying to guide the truck out of the narrow streets when the brakes apparently lost air pressure.
The Boston Fire Department said via Twitter that they responded to the scene at Walnut and Beacon streets at 11:48 a.m. No one was injured and the driver stayed at the scene to speak with police, according to the fire department.
Boston firefighters worked to stabilize the vehicle this afternoon as the fuel tanks were unloaded. The fire department said the truck would be towed from the Common

Huh? this happened today? so how old was this truck--still had single action brakes? Somebody PLEASE get a qualified inspector out here--LMAOAfterShock and Joetro Thank this. -
Apparently District Fire Chief Kevin Brooks has seen too many movies.

An out-of-state truck driver.
Sixty foot flatbed truck?
Got lost?
No air?
No springs?
No stop.
Crashed into the Boston Common?
How "common" is that?
I wonder how old the fire trucks Chief Brooks uses are?
Surely a Chief would have a workin' knowledge of air brakes.
Wouldn't 'e?

Boston is no fun to get around in, the streets are small and lots of One Ways.
48Packard Thanks this. -
Looked like one of those single decker car trailers meant for a dually to pull.
When I run low on air my spring brakes pop on and I can't move. That gorky hi-rise Century needs a big orange decal on it's window.
Credit to the driver, he left both wrought iron stair railings intact. -

Well, considering the BFD killed one of their guys a couple years back with a poor quality in-house brake repair, perhaps not.
