Do you have any info on other benefits like 401K and such? The check for orientation, do you get that the week of orientation or after? Do they take taxes out of that check or no? After reading your entry, it looks like you said you do not get a pay check for 4 weeks. Is that true?

You don't get your regular checks until 4 weeks. They go ahead and give you your orientation pay the second week you are there. Its to kinda help you make it till you start getting your regular checks. Orientation pay is taxed, but reimbursement for fuel if you came in your own vehicle from out of state is not taxed and neither is the Fingerprinting you do for your haz-mat endorse. If you got them before you came. As far as 401k they do offer it and they match up to 100% for every 2% you stick in. After 3 years or 2 yrs they match 3% and then do not match any higher than that.

How many hours a day are you driving? Is your trainer driving any? Any other input?

I been driving the whole time. I come in at 7 a.m. and we get in the truck and drive till about 12:30 P.M. and take a 1 hour break. Then we get back in the truck and drive till about 4:30 P.M. and are back at the terminal by then. This Monday I am driving to Ft. Wayne, Indiana then down to Evansville. And this Wednesday I drive with my 2nd trainer to Mississippi and back, will let you know how that goes seeing how I will be staying the night in the truck.. Will take some getting used too..lol

Hello Hoppy, great post, keep the details coming. I wish you the best of luck throughout your training. Listen to everything the trainers have to offer, even if it seems like they are repeating themselves. I've had my CDL with all endorsements, for 8 years and I still consider myself a student.

Always think safety, always keep your CDL clean, don't run illegal. If you plan on doing this, your license is the most valuable thing in your wallet !!! With at least one year of experience, you will be able to pretty much go where you want and decide who to work for. So many options for an experienced driver with a clean background.

I am in Northern California for the next 12 months or so, then I will be moving to Anderson and to Carter. Hope we cross paths.

Good luck and keep the updates coming.

Sounds like it's a good idea to have some sort of bank roll, just to get you thru the lean weeks. I'm planning for that as I type this. I hate being broke !!!

Well I had a while to plan, I actually started talking to Carter in 2013 of December. I put back money every month till I could have enough saved to afford to come up here and back and still pay rent, electric and account for car trouble etc.. Even turned cable and internet off to save an extra 100 a month.. Was a good ideal because in the end I wasn't even told that I wouldn't get a check for 4 weeks. I just assumed at most it would be 2 weeks. So good thing I planned ahead. I never been a coffee drinker at all, never even liked it but once I tried Pilots coffee with that green creamer cups and a spoon of sugar man I am HOOKED!

Thanks Hoppy , I don't have a CDL yet but Sage school and Carter say each will pay half.

Kelly told me you are home a couple times a week , is this what you are hearing ? I told her I could stay out for like 3 weeks and she said no one Evers does that.

So do you know where all you will be going. I hope to get a lt of miles and travel 48 states

Also have they told you if you can take the truck home ? Kelly said no but someone said yes they do it all the time.

I really hope you keep posting on here with any info you get. I think there are quitenanfew people wanting info on Carter.

Are all the trucks Volvo , Automatics
