I do the ug test and then get out and check with a flashlight to be sure the pin is not on top of the jaws.

I'v done that enough times. I hauled medical canner and they have an air ride king pin plate. them buggers are a bear to get hoked up right. Espcially the older ones as they were hinged on the rear and had the bags on the front, and they were big bags. The newer ones are hinged on the front an only have a small flat bag.

The last wreck where the truck is doing the bucking bronc ride is the funniest. -
My current truck with the Jost plate is easy to tell if its closed. I get out and look to make sure the lock bar is all the way across. If it is, there is no way the jaws can come open. -
Now you see it..........Now you don't

I don't just do the "tug" test...I always do a visual. Yep, I learned that from experience.

All I want to know is HOW IN THE HELL did those pumpkins end up on their roofs. When they had those their top end was 55. What did the drivers do put them in Mexican overdrive coming down a mountain or something.

I'm guilty of not always doing a visual check, but I always do a pull test! I should be better since I witnessed someone leave without their trl from our yard once!
