If it's a DOT mandated drug test, since 1996 the USA requires Canadian drivers (entering the USA) to pass a 5 panel urinalysis. There is no requirement for Canada-only drivers to be drug tested, unless a substantial number of the company's drivers travel to the USA.
In Canada, drug testing is considered an invasive medical procedure, whereas the USA exempted drug testing from privacy laws back in the 80s. In Canada, you have a right to privacy and cannot be compelled (by law) to give your urine to your employer. That said, you'll have your privacy but probably no job.
Considering that many women are promptly fired when their boss discovers a pregnancy, this law makes a boat load of sense.
The 5 panels REQUIRED are for THC from marijuana, PCP, amphetamines, cocaine and opiates.
Since Ritalin, Dexedrine and morphine are a few common prescriptions that will show positive on a 5 Panel, you MUST bring a copy of a current prescription to the test.
Anything above and beyond the 5 panel is optional, and very expensive. It would be the company's own policy, not enshrined by any laws in the USA or Canada, and they could potentially only test certain employees to a higher standard, such as a 12 panel, or hair follicle test. Both are prohibitively expensive for fleet testing.
I have never taken a breath alcohol sample during a pre-employment drug test, but had to take it for every random test.
This info is pretty easy to find online, hope it helps.mrrandomson Thanks this. -
Kriska uses the the drug testing services located at the fifth wheel truck stops or husky truck stops, they are legit, and if your not going to pass please stay the muck off the road.
