Qualcomm question?

    Hi all

    So at orientation at a certain company today we were told that when we send our driver vehicle inspection report on the Qualcomm to always put that there is no defects even if we find something wrong with the truck. They said that they would fix whatever is wrong but to always put no defects on the Qualcomm because it causes some sort of problem with their software.

    My question is does this sound right to you guys? Isn't Qualcomm an official document essentially? Can you get a ticket for saying nothing is wrong if something is?

    Yes you can and I think they are full of it. If it does cause a software problem that's on them but I wouldn't falsify records for them which is what they are asking you to do

    Get the defect fixed immediately then do the vir...just remember..once you put yes on the vir you have put yourself out of service until repairs are made...

    in 12 years i have never put yes on an inspection form.

    I always put NO. It can cause some big headaches for you if you do b/c it puts you OOS until repaired and it will put you into "Shop Status" and then hopefully can get "OTR" to release your truck. The one time that I did put yes it royally screwed me b/c no one would get me out of shop status and missed a p/u b/c of it.

    Just put NO and if there is something that needs fixing just contact your company to have it fixed before you move.

    Always list defects found it is your protection. Cover your but first, always.

    Thank you all for your input, as always I appreciate it. I agree with that I am not comfortable with always putting that nothing is wrong even if something is. Its my responsibility to make sure the tractor/trailer is legal and safe

    This nails the essence of how the automated system handles when you note a defect. It automatically removes you from being able to be dispatched and may require you to wait for service and have another driver sent to take the load you have. Certainly if you have a serious problem then you note the problem on the V.I.R. However, in most cases you will wait until you get to a terminal for minor repairs or contact their roadside service phone number and use a Qualcomm macro if the problem is serious (like a flat tire).
