I have a question.
Now i am driving for a big company under their authority. And i am about to go to another one. And of course i will have to drop their trailer as well as everything else in their terminal (Plates, permits, DOT number etc etc..)
My question is; how will i drive from their terminal to the new company orientation terminal without having a DOT number, plate etc ? An intend letter from new company perhaps ?
I really need some advice on that.
Thanks
What should i do ?

call the new outfits plate guy...get a "headhunter" permit
but you will need insureance -
When I leased to Landstar I got a box with all kinds of goodies in it long before I left for orientation.

tell your current company you need sometime at home. dump there trailer at there lot head to oreintation once you get your next companies plates. then just mail the others back to your current company
-
I was not that lucky.
I called them, did their physical and started the next week. I drove up with no plates. -
Thanks all for coming back on this issue. Seems like jugg has a point and i am gonna give a shot on his advice.
Landstar is out of question for me since they require Hazmat and i am told unofficially that they will never give me Hazmat since i am from middleeast.
My orientation will be in Clarksville, AR. I am currently at home (Santa Fe, NM) home time. If i tell my company that i am quitting, they will probably want me to go to Dallas, TX terminal. And from there to Clarksville i guess i will have to go thru Tx scales, (perhaps OK too ? ) and AR scales.
But as Jugg said, i will probably accept the first load they give me, which is usually deadhead to El Paso, load up, mostly deliver to St. louis. From there i can take couple days off and head to their Ft.Smith terminal, quit there and i guess Clarksville is close to Ft.Smith.
How does that sound ? Only problem with that is , its based on assumption about my next load. -

I've been told. ( another trucker story?? )Removing ALL the other companies stickers and placing a not for hire sign will suffice, to get you where you need to go.
Of course, you'll still need insurance. -
A formal "intent to lease" letter from the new company should suffice. Remove all previous company logos, stickers, and the plate. If you are stopped for having a "naked" truck, show the letter and simply explain that you are changing carriers. As much as we like to think of police and scalemasters as being the "bad guys", they will actually very likely be cooperative and understanding and let you go on your way. As already stated, you will need bobtail or unladen insurance which you should already have anyways. Good luck with your new venture! -
