the tech school for 24 months for 10K is a "tech school", not a community college.

I don't know my self how I never knew about selective services. mom used to claim me as a dependent so I didn't do my taxes but she did. I went to some college without financial aid. I was interested in other things, let's put it that way which is why I never paid attention or even knew about selective service or financial aid. Which is why I'm just signing up for FAFSA and selective service since I can't get FAFSA without signing up for selective service.

Curious how does one get the financial aid funds? Someone told me he got his sent to him directly, but the process I am reading is that I need to meet up with the financial aid officer to know how much I will receive? What if the "officer" does not like me much, would he still give me the full funds that is due to me? Does the officer determine how much a person gets? I would think the info. I provided when signing up online would determine how much I would receive (i.e. the W2, tax, etc.)

Since you have not provided me with the name of the Tech school I am not sure exactly what you have gotten yourself into but from watching the kids of my friends go to college when you apply for financial aid that money never is suppose to come to you. thats how the banks involved in loaning it have some security that it is going for what it was suppose to...it goes directly to the institution. You will never see he bursar that receives your funds and applies them to your acct. The financial officer you meet will just inquire that they are in the acct. They have no reason to hold back your money unless directed to do so by the Federal government. No the Financial aid officer has no say in how much aid a person gets since these are government backed loans that are repaid by you starting six months after you finish school. And if Grant money is involved, that is dollars that are basically free with no repayment, then the institution providing the grant decides how much you can get. I seriously hope you are not going to enroll in a course that is so costly. There are programs everywhere that are half that expensive.

what's a good reason to give the Selective Service how I ended up not signed up for it? Would they deny you financial aid access if you said you were institutionalized or incarcerated (which I wasn't of course). Just curious. Maybe I signed up for it but just didn't know or remembered and it got lost somewhere along the way?

Another ridiculous thing I received from the school of my choice other than the Selective Service issue was that I wasn't confirmed as an eligible noncitizen, whatever that means. I have my citizenship certificate with me. I'm a U.S. citizen. I guess I'll just show this to the financial aid office?

Some mistake huh? Not sure if this had anything to do with not being signed up for Selective Service, which I am now not even sure if I did or didn't sign up for it. I'm sure I did somewhere along the way but it probably wasn't sent or processed?

I went to a junior college. I also went through WIA to get financial aid. The course was 5 weeks long and only cost right at $3000. I am in Texas, but I think it would be a good idea to check around where you live for courses. My boyfriend went to a company based training school and ended up there for over 2 months before he ever got to go out with a trainer.

About signing up for the selective services, you should have signed up when you turned 18 (all males). My son received a post card in the mail to remind him he had to. When we filed for his FAFSA, I signed him up. So, that's not something new they throw at ya.

I hope this might help ya out some. I did a lot of checking before going with this school, and I'm glad I held out and didn't go to a company based program. I'm pretty sure my class of 12 students got more hands-on training and help with everything than you would with a class of 50 or 60 and more keep coming in on Mondays.

I heard of people saying they had a couple hundred or grand extra that they were able to "spend" it on anything other than school. How do you use this funds if it goes straight to the financial aid office and not a check to your house?
