New law about passengers in trucks?

I made a joke similar to that when filling out a COMCHECK for an escort.

"wait, do I really need to put "escort" in the 'reason?' i'll just oay Cash....that sounded worse"

 

Well, as far as I'm concerned, as well as thousands of years of human civilization is concerned(before we became the Nanny Republic); when a so called "kid" turns 13, they are then treated as adults to train them out of childhood into adulthood. If not, you will have a bunch of adult "kids" that can't take care of themselves. They just continue to sponge off their parents and ignore responsibility for their lives. I learned how to drive a stick pickup at 13, had my driver's license at 15, and was drag racing my own pickup at an NHRA dragstrip on weekends at 16. At 16, I was also helping my dad pull reefer out to California and back. Albeit, he only let me drive in the desert while he took a 3-4 hour nap after the sun went down.So some of you old drivers just may have had a "kid" flashing you over on I-40 across NM and AZ back in the late '80s.A 16 yr old is plenty mature enough to just ride along in a truck. Even a 16yr old that was babied.

 

I understand where you are coming from - learned to drive at 13, was driving regularly until I was caught by my driver's ed teacher when I was 16 (Opps!). Been all over the country by the time I hit 18, but I am not talking of teenagers who know better than to do some of these things I worry about, but rather kids who are say 8, 10 or even 4 or 6. I'm not really worried about the kids as I would have been in the past but rather I worry about myself, the people around the truck with a distracted person driving it. I have to deal with women (and men for that matter) who have brats in the back seat and am dealing with their issues instead of driving. I saw one Friday where she was holding a hamburger for the kid in the back seat and trying to drive, swerving between two lanes - really is that kid's food more important than the car you may have hit?

But again trucks are no place for kids. Just my opinion.

Well that sucks. But on the other hand; where is the next generation of truckers gonna come from? I rode with my uncle starting at 4......I think a truck is a fine place for a kid........their safety or lack therof has more to do with the "adult" they are with......

 

I'm not going to say what decade this was but I was riding around the country for months at a time with my grandfather before I was big enough to climb into the cab myself. Nowadays its all about insurance. I see different companies listing on their websites different passenger policies and different age requirements which tells me it has nothing to do with the law and everything to do with their underwriter.

 

Can a truck driver get a ticket bc he is traveling with his family ( wife and 1 year old and 3 months baby??) is there any law? Please help me out.....thx

 

If you don't have written permission and required insurance. Then yes a cop can make you remove them and bring a world of hurt down on you and company.
