Once upon a time an old dude told me never get caught in the hammer lane in California, you can fight it but you won't win.

A third lane ticket is nearly impossible to contest. With signs posted at every highway entering the state, you can't even plead ignorance. Your only hope is if the officer doesn't show, but 3rd lane tickets are pretty much always written by CHP & CHP does not miss court.

In ~2 weeks you'll get a notice in the mail with the amount of the fine. I'd just pay it. You could hire a lawyer, but with a 3rd lane 99 times out of 100 you'll wind up paying both the ticket & lawyer.

For the unaware reading this, in California trucks must travel in the right-most lane whenever there are 3 or fewer lanes in your direction. You can pass in the second lane, but must return to the right lane unless otherwise posted ("trucks ok" etc). With 4+ lanes, trucks must stay in the right 2 lanes unless otherwise posted.

I planned on just paying it and ttaking the points, I don't know about California's laws, but ignorance isn't an excuse blah blah. Should have just taken the 95:biggrin_25511:

Fight every ticket. Either by asking for a different charge that does not go on your record nor points. I got a ticket for speeding. got it reduced to some very minor charge and I was willing to pay the amount of the speeding ticket. Got it done, no record on my license.
I also fought a OS ticket I got in IN. Got every thing I demanded including the cop off the road and stuck in an office and the ticket expunged from my record. FIGHT THEM ALL large or small they will effect your employment and insurance down the road.

Third lane violation in Kern county(Grapevine) start at $350. Then they like to add on a little over the speed limit on top of that, to try to get a little extra.

I went to court on a red light violation(I was guilty, but the light had just changed), anyways, I saw the LEO walk in the courthouse and pulled him aside to talk to him. I told him who I was and if he could change the violation to a non-moving one. He said "SURE, NO PROBLEM", he ask me to what, I told him the non-moving code and what it was and he said he never heard of it but he will see what he could do for me. When they called my name in court, ther judge said "YOUR CASE HAS BEEN DISMISSED". I told the judge/court "thank you" and the LEO turned around and wave at me. I didnt need to hire an attorney or nothing. I did my research and prevailed. BTW the fine would of been $495.00 1 1/2 points .
