I've heard alot of poor things about western but am "thinking" different for a minute.. Y??? I call and talk to a guy & lady at the coporate office in nashville right. She told me proudly I will bring u with a trainer for 2wks of load securement and etc. Hometime i ask? You will be out 3wks with 2.5days at home!!!! WHAT.... Ok now monday call western terminal in Alabama lady told me i would run 48 with trainer, 20-28 when am in my own truck. My hometime would be home weekends for a 34hour restart and that would be my home terminal.. What to OR WOULD U believe????:biggrin_2552:

Tough call there hero. I'm not hearing many good things from their drivers.

Recruiters are the new snake oil salesmen. Some will tell you the truth, others will tell you what they think you want to hear.

Speak to some drivers and ask them. That's your best bet.

And truthfully, the recruiter may not know the full "issues" of the company. And may well be speaking from a prepared "fit all" pamplet.

Most, if not all of our regional drivers are told, home in 14 days. When most of us actually get home more often that that. Albeit, under a load.

Hey, every day home counts in my book. Under a load or not.

Yea i know they will tell you anything to get you there. I was looking to start with them to get some experience in flatbedding and than move on to a more stable company. But i'm gonna continue asking or seeking advice from drivers would a little time behind the wheel at western be a complete waste of time & MONEY!!

Keep i mind, differant terminals operate differantly within some companies. I know ours do. So Western may have been spot on with both recruiters version.

What part of MS are you from?? County will be sufficient.

I may be able to point you in alternate directions that can provide you with more options.

I know there is a lot of bad press within this board about McElroy in Cuba, AL. But they would be an excellent starter company for you, based on your location. They may not be the best for an experienced driver. But they do have a good flatbed training program.

I don't know (from your original post) what exactly you are looking for in trucking. But, McElroy offers weekends at home. And based on your location, you are in one of their main travel corridors.

Their trucks are slow as Christmas. But, their starting pay for beginning drivers used to be VERY competitive.

i used to drive for western 3 years ago out of decatuer terminal. yes i got home every weekend and i got great miles.they have great equpment. just dont go to nashville shop if you can help it. the only drawback to them i had were that sometimes they try to run you too hard, and all of the new york city loads i did not like. the dispatchers in dect.were all very nice. but most of the time your loads come from trip planners in nashville. they are a good company to drive for if you dont mind a lot of east coast runs.

Watch out for independent recruiters. This is an overlooked issue in recruiting. There are recruiters who work for multiple companies even more than that.

As already stated here, they will tell u everything to get u there. Once u showed up in that orientation room they will be paid.

    They are called "Headhunters"

Make sure the recruiter u are talking to is actually representing the company that you are interested in.

Ok the story of recruiters is down pack, they will do there JOB to get u there... How can you say "ok" sound nice to my ears but will it be when i arrive. You know it seem like in a way it's up and down to me; how did you guys find the right carrier to drive for? By listening to the (headhunters) or just jumping on the band wagon and giving it a try not knowing what to expect but from what driver have spoken or the recruiters.. just pondering that thought.. very hard!!:biggrin_25512: Western was a thought on my mind, am just not looking forward to running out of nashville and that would be my luck to get placed there!!! Not looking for anything long term with western just to get my ears wet with "FLATBEDDING" and move on to a more respectful company you know.

It's hit and miss. You are absolutely swamped with information. A lot of it completely false.

There are several ways to find a "great" job. Through contacts with friends and family being one way.

Or, you can wear the label of "job hopper" that so many of us do. While companies call this type of driver unreliable, it's a fact of life in the industry.

It takes time to filter all the BS that goes on in this industry. A simply jog to the local truck stop will prove that. You'll see no less than 15 trade magazines screaming that everyone has THE best pay, treatment, training, and benefits.

In truth, most are the same. You'll have to find one that meets your definition of reliable, and respectful.

What I call "driver respect", another driver may call disrespect.

As I am sure you are aware. There are a lot of bottom feeding companies out here. Try your best to stay away from them at all cost.
