I was wondering if most companies actually call your previous employers? Looks like most applications require extensive information on your employment history. If the recruiters actually call past employers, do they say what company they are from and what position you're being considered for? I've only had one job before (been there for several years) and don't have anything to hide, I was just curious. I'd rather my past employer not know what I'm up to now :biggrin_25524:

I would submit copies of W-2 forms with their employer ID numbers on it. Many times, past employers have either been bought out or have gone out of business.

    NOTE:
Calling past employers can be a DOUBLE EDGED SWORD for employees having their pasts verified.

Haven't filled out an app in awhile but think there usually is a box to check that asks if it's ok to contact your present employer.I think some companies understand that it may affect your job if they call.

Most employers are so afraid of getting sued that they will only verify dates of employment and maybe say if you are ok to rehire.

What Dakota said. Almost every app I've ever filled out had a box to check if you didn't want the prospective employer calling your current employer.I always left it unchecked, because I personally didn't care if my employer found out I was looking to move on to greener pastures,as by that point I'd have already made it clear to whomever in charge that I was unhappy about my current situation/wages/ etc. If you don't want them calling and there is no box to check on the app, just specify on the app in writing that it's not OK to contact them. That way you'll have it in writing should nonsense ensue....lol ;-)

Someone in HR will do the calling to verify past employment, the recruiters job is to tell you enough lies to get you fill out the job application.

Yes if you want the job, they are going to verify, Most do it by mail or fax. Just a form. Did you work there, are you rehire-able, reason you left, resign termination, drug test refused or failed. accidents or incidents.

Yeah right. There is a slim chance of that happening and most companies don't tell their human resources people how to actually give confirmations out so they blab a lot of info and nothing ever happens.

Sure if you go with a #### company, there are companies that wont lie. Plus if you ask the right questions, you can always get to the bottom of the truth.
