Trucker will be cited in crane accident, police say

A truck driver who was transporting a construction crane on an unauthorized route will be cited in connection with an accident that injured a woman and endangered a 2-week-old girl, Carlisle police said.
Police said they responded to a call about 4:30 p.m. Thursday that a rig driven by Tony D. Kyle, 46, of Cleveland, Texas, had hit a bridge at South Hanover Street and Interstate 81.

They said it was determined that the top of a crane Kyle was hauling hit the bridge and that a link of the heavy chain securing the crane had shot off into a passing car driven by Francisco Mazzamuto, 25, of Carlisle.
That chain link flew into the rear passenger seat of Mazzamuto's vehicle and hit Kristel Mazzamuto, 26, in the face as she held the couple's 2-week old daughter, police said.

The infant wasn't hurt, police said, but Kristel Mazzamuto was treated at Carlisle Regional Medical Center for a laceration.
It was determined that Kyle was not on the route authorized for transporting the crane, police said.

Sad story but is an infant reqiured to be in a child seat (restriant) of some sort ??

Absolutely, the infant should be in the back seat in a child safety seat. The mother should receive a citation for that.

Most definitely where was that carseat? No child should ever be in a car without being properly restrained!!!!!

The mother may have been feeding the baby at the time...I hope the driver gets jail time for it and maybe he'll learn his lesson .Might save him from killing somebody next time.
