Hi Dave - What school are you going to? And what company are you aiming for? If you don't want to reply on the board, just shot a PM.

Hal, I am going to NETTTS in Bridgeport, CT a few towns north east from me up I95 it is a 22 week course total got 1 week under my belt now.
I have a Class B for 30+ years (not used in 30 years) that the med card ran out back in April of this year, so I found out at school. When I get a new card the class B should be good again till I get my class A.
Because I have my class B I only need to take the combo test for the permit and then the driving test. I was told by the school not to get other endorsements like doubles & triples because they can/will test you on the driving part for them so why give them more to maybe fail you on. So far only one Co. wanted doubles but can get that after I have my class A.
I have been on here for a week or 2 to see what others have to say on trucking Co's and think they all have good & bad things about them.
I saw a job I liked with Schneider, dedicated route, posted on the web but don't know if it will be around by the time I get the class A? A few years back they were sending me letters to join also so they would be the first. The school also has recruiters coming in all the time. Just last week they had think 5 in but only talked to 3, they also have 3 others in this coming week and more other weeks so I am open at this time. I don't want OTR but maybe regional or dedicated route.
Once I have my eye fixed & med card in hand I will look deeper into the job market and send out feelers.
Good luck on your eye issue and the CDL class A lic

Talking about vision. I use glasses, & I'm scheduled for orientation with central refrigerated on august 18. Will I need to take my prescription for the glasses? Or as long as I can pass the vision test with my glasses on, they don't care about any paperwork regarding my glasses/vision?
hal380 Thanks this. -
Thanks Dave - I like Schneider too. Next is Conway.

I have never been asked for my prescription.

Same here.
My first med card was done by my normal doctor at my yearly check up and the test was with glasses on and never asked what they were.
Second card, part done at normal Dr. but the eye part was done at the eye Dr. as I was getting them checked.
This last time (last week) was at school by their Dr. and he never asked and the test was with glasses on.
For the waiver it has to be by an eye doctor, see link to form in above post.
About glasses when away from home like during training or on the road working bring a 2nd pair in case the first one break. Best to have and not need than need and not have!

When I got My CDL in Texas,I had to get a Texas Vision waiver.I recieved a Texas Intra-state CDL,which allowed me to drive in Texas only.Not all States allow this.After a few months I applied for a FMCSA Vision exemption because I wanted to drive out of state.They require 3 years of experience,but I applied with 1 year T/T,and 10 years straight truck.It took about 6 months to get,but I now have a Inter-state CDL.The exemption is good for 2 years,and I have to get a physical with a eye test every year.I have Amblyopia(Lazy Eye}

I went for my 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] needle of 3 in the eye yesterday. The eye chart test did not get any better than the first time he tested it. Kind of a big downer when I heard that. What did improve was the swelling based on the fancy pictures he took before & now. That got me back up and feeling better.
Part of the trouble with my issue I have is the nerves can be damaged and not get better than what I have now but I still have 1 needle left so fingers crossed I caught it soon enough.
I also gave the Dr. the government waver papers to fill out. This way if I fail the school eye test I can hand them the waver papers to be sent to Washington DC. I just dont want to mail them yet as I was told that my med card may only be good for 6 months to 1 year and I would have to go thru the waver proses.
The next school med card testing for me is 8/23/14 so have time for the medicine to work more.
Good luck everyone with your eye issues.
Dave ----hal380 Thanks this.
