Hello all. I was wondering if anyone could give me some good advice about California based Trucking outfits? As you might have guessed ... I live in Cali and would like to know as much as I can about my options here before I branch out to far from home. I am in school for my Class A right now so I'm in research mode for a good place to start the rest of my life. lol
I am wanting to pull flatbed but will not pass up any good opps. Also I will have all endorsements on my license.
Thank you all for your input.
P.S ... pls keep all non helpful comments/info to yourself as I am not interested in anything but helpful comments/info.
Thanks again........

I'm in the same boat as you so I'll be interested to hear some options as well. Are you trying to do local, regional, or otr?
-
At this point I'm just looking for options but I wont pass up anything to be honest. Would love local or Regional but they are hard to get for a new driver from what I'm told.
-
I see you are on the 99 corridor, ever thought of hauling produce?
-
It crossed my mined but I was told there was no money in it.
-
What's your location?
-
I live in a little place called Chowchilla in California.

Oh ya, well ABF may be hiring in Fresno for Dock/city drivers. Home everyday.
Or even Manteca for Dock/city. -
JBLittle,
The trucking industry is full of junk OTR companies both big and small. Either way, if you choose OTR, you will have no one to blame but yourself. I was once like you. No experience and looking to get my foot in the door. I started out with a local Union company doing rendering work. It smelled to high heaven. But it was a start. All of the jobs I had paid houtly except for Bulk transportation that paid by the mile (odometer) and hourly for all on duty time. That was not a good fit for me. I feel that if I am on duty and working for the company, I should be paid for all of that time. I have never worked per mile, percenatge or salary since.
I now work for a Union company that has me working Mon-Fri and home every day by 3pm. I grossed over 80k last year and took home near 60k. Iv'e been here 10 years now. Minmal costs for benefits and employer paid retirement.
Put that up against any non Union OTR company. They don't even come close. If I can do it, so can you. Good luck! -
TY for the advice sir.
