I am about to start driving school for my A license and I was wondering is the average salary only around 55k. All trucking companies that I have talked with all say around that. Can $75k and up be achieved driving a truck in Ontario (Southern) or do you have to out west in the oil industry to get higher wages. Thanks

At a regular otr company your almost better off working at mcdonalds. Atleast your home everynight and have a discount on some cheap food! Lol specialized pays more of course but out west is where the good money is.

I don't get that logic. We all need to start somewhere. Pay shouldn't matter in the beginning. Just focus on getting experience to land better jobs.
I started with Werner making peanuts. 14 years later I make 90k. I haven't made less than 75k in 6 year.

In southern Ontario try getting into multi axle flatbed. Steel would be the way to do.

My time is valuable to me. I almost did go make peanuts for the chance to learn until prairie boy on here showed me a way to learn and make good money. Ur logic is exactly why drivers are making peanuts in the beginning. Everyone's has to eat, so pay someone a decent wage from the start so they actually like there job more and want to do a good job.

    Prairie Boy Thanks this.

Lol. I ate while a rookie. Don't give me that. I did it for a year. Got my cdl in January of 2000. By 03 I was making 60k.

Wages are crap only because fools continue to job hop years later and continue to work for thoseb wages.

Rookies have no experience, they are worth 26cpm. Gain experience and you'll make more.

You're the exception to the rule.

Within 3 months of getting my license I was making 50cpm plus $21 per pickup and drop. Easily brought home $2200 plus every 2 weeks. I was home every other night and all weekends. Haul steel. There is money in it.

Boy Howdey and Prairie Boy Thank this.
