Hey thanks for sharing the information regarding this school/training! Can you tell me where exactly is this class being offered (campus, etc.). I located TSTC but the information on their website seems to differ from what you've posted here.
Also, a question for you experienced Truckers; is it realistic for a new driver with no experience will be hired right out of training to drive tankers for the oilfields etc. and does anyone know any companies willing to do so?
thank you,
TL1

Not a problem. From what I understand it is held at the Sweetwater campus. If you go tot he TSTC website and then click on west texas, another pop will come up and there's a oilfield work picture that takes you to a link. I have went ahead and posted the link below. But dates and the application is listed in PDF format that you can download. It states on the regristation packet "Federal Financial Aid" isn't availible because it's a non-credit course. Not sure if the school offers any thing.
As far as the jobs go, the guy I know taking this class filled out some applications shortly after enrolling in the class, and was receiving offers the same day as applying. So it sounds promising.
This is a little offi topic, but I went to a job fair last week. There was a trucking company there, who only deals with hauling salt water, and says they start at $15 hr and then after so long move to $19, and said they can't fill there positions fast enough. 12 hr days, some maybe end up being only 10 some may be 14 and unlimeted overtime. If I remember correctly, he stated they only have 2012 and newer Peterbilts. Health insurance, 401K and a few other things. If you want the company name to look into it let me know. That is about all I know, and I can't speek from actual expierence, just what the guy said, and we all know how that can go.TruckerLife1 Thanks this. -
Thanks again cntryislandboy and yes, if you would share the company name I'd appreciate it!

Sure thing, that's what we are all here for right is to help each other, if we aren't here to help each other then why are we even here in the first place. I just sent you the link, wasn't sure about posting names. I know nothing of these guys other than they talk a good game and the job fair I attended.
TruckerLife1 Thanks this. -
TSTC has been around for many yrs and has always been well regarded. Used to do a lot of pilot training as well. You must be at Hood if you have 45 minute commute. I would think you could get the whole thing comped if you check out all the different grants and programs available. Lot of oil and gas wells just S of you and out in Hearne/Bryan/College Station area. Also seeing crude being hauled N of DFW area.

Big Duker, thanks for the positive feedback about TSTC. I am actually at Dyess in Abilene. The trucking program is held in Sweetwater. Defianlty going to look into payment/funding options. I'd love to be able to get the military to pay for it, but that is going to be a LONG shot. But technically speaking TA will pay for one certification. The hard part is the class is 6 weeks, and I can take 30 days leave no issue, anything more than that, I need commander approval. Given my job it might be a easy sell, if not I can always take it when I'm done. I've also started saving for the class and commute cost so that should help some.
