If you go with US Xpress....get on a dedicated account. They have several to choose from for Solo drivers. My trainer was on one and it was mostly drop and hook. Depending on the region...they have accounts that can get you home every weekend.

I am with Werner and have been since the first of the year.. so going on 8 months now... I am happy with werner...
Werner gets bashed here on TTR forum a lot... but, it doesnt bother me... I consistently bring home over $1000 a week... which is more important to me then making less at a company that doesnt get bashed here on the forum..
Werner is keeping their fleet to 2 years for trucks and six years for trailers.. so your equiptment will be nice, and it gets full serviced every 60 days, they have 24/7 support and plenty of resourses for new drivers....
The best way to go is to get on a dedicated account which werner has plenty of.. so you shojld be able to fi d a good account for you.....
I dont know anything about US Express... as I said I am with Werner and am happy...jac714, willveagle and mje Thank this. -
Does Werner also do a lot of OTR to all 48 states and Canada?

In my experience at the megas, all the long haul freight is usually for teams but I'm sure they have some longer stuff too. OP I would seriously look into Knight Transportation. They hire newbies and they have a terminal right there in Eagan. I know you say you don't need to be home that often but when you do, and it's an emergency it's a lot easier to get you back to a terminal than not. As far as I know USX and Weiner don't have terminals in your area. It sure makes things a lot easier for having PMs and other things fixed on home time.
Knight has both a pet policy and rider policy. And if I'm not mistaken they also pay the best of the 3? If it weren't for the whole pet thing I would recommend Roehl transport out of Marshfield, WI. That's where I got my start. They have one of the best starting pay scales for newbies and excellent training program.
Just something to think about. Good luck in your decision.jac714 Thanks this. -
I will check out Knight.
Thanks -
Werner does do OTR to all 48 and Canada... I know we have a couple drop yards in Canada... and when I was at the Henderson Terminal months ago... I talked to a driver who did regular runs to Canada... didnt get much I to detail... I just asked if it was a lot off hassle going through customs and stuff... but ne seemed to really enjoy doing the Canada runs..
jac714 Thanks this. -
That is one thing I am interested in, if I am going to go OTR I would like to try to hit all of the lower 48 and as much of Canada as I can. Alaska would be nice but not likely.Last edited: Aug 3, 2014

If you do make it up to Alaska, that would be one hell of an accomplishment. You will have literally driven to 49 states and all of Canada.Last edited: Aug 4, 2014

Only thing more impressive than that would be making it to Hawaii lol.jac714 Thanks this.
