Seems funny to me..... The same companies that are selling you trucks over in Europe are selling them over here. So why are they so different ?
Wieght laws , bridge formulas etc is some of it but there's more to it...?
One thing is Americans don't like to be told "mine is better".
Why do so many Americans hate European trucks?

The point I'm getting at is that a cabover design by default is less aerodynamic. The most aerodynamic tractor trailer ever built was the "top gun" tractor that looked like a cross between a fighter jet and tractor. You literal got in and out of the thing like you would a jet fighter with the glass top lifting up and you sitting in it like a pilot would in a jet fighter. cab over designs are better for maneuverability but horrible for aerodynamics. That is why jockey wagons are "cab overs" but hardly any tractor trailers are in NA.

No one likes to be told something they have is inferior to what someone else has. That's not an American thing that is a human thing. I do agree with you though. The reason why trucks are different is because of different laws, different applications, and how we use trains in North America vs how they are used in Europe which is something that makes quite a bit of difference as well, then there is also traveling distance.

Actually the differences are getting smaller and just cosmetic.
And the COE vs hood thing will also become less as the EU will go to hoods,they will just be short hoods.
So in the longterm this thread will become more like talking about different model off the same brand.
Some will hate it,some will love but the future is as good as decided ,it is just we don't realise it yet. -

No not much vibration at all, the ride would be a lot better than an 80's euro Coe but not as good as a modern Coe mainly due to 4 point cab suspension, you'd get jarring that you don't get in euro trucks simply because the cab is bolted to the chassis on two points, if they suspended the cab properly in US trucks they'd be a brilliant drive

Well if the ride wouldn't be better I be seriously surprised.
But what I can absolutely not take is poor fitment and vibration.
But if the hood stay still it sounds promising. Can't imagine having to watch something vibrating 10h a day -
New actros have a Detroit engine, they are hitting 12-13 mpg , if you have a hood, the hood breaks the air, that turbulence comes slamming into the windscreen etc, a Coe that is properly aerodynamically shaped cuts a clean break through the air and pushes it around the trailer , Scania done windtunnel tests on this and proved this is the case, if the conventional had a windscreen that raked back almost flat more like a fighter not like a fighter with a big airbrake it would be true a conventional would be better

Hhmmmm well you kinda vibrate instead lol, especially a freightliner , better make sure your dentist done a good job puttin in those fillings

Those "old fashioned" gearboxes are quite nice on highway work and very reliable, synchromesh manual is still better than any gearbox as an all rounder except ZF's manual which is rubbish! As far as auto shift go there are some excellent ones like I shift (the best ) but some serious crap out there too
