    I am a New B
About to finish in two more weeks.
From reading the post on this site I have narrowed it down to KLLM and Trans Am . Trans Am is saying their First year drivers average 46k a year # .30 a mile. KllM on the other hand is close to my home in Atlanta Ga, area and they pay .34 a mile. I have had offers from others such as Werner. But thanks to the info here NOT! I talked to recruiter with Werener and yeah I could be a trainer after 6 months. My integrity will not allow me to train some one when I've just learned myself! Like I said ties in to what i've read here. So Trans Am or KLLM???

I could be crazy but it seems to me that with the different companys I worked with, big and small. If you put them all in a hat, shook it up, dumped it out, they all come out standing on their heads. I have come to the conclusion to pick the color and type truck you like and what is comfortable to you (like close to home) and go with it. Each company seems to be out to make a buck no matter who they have to use to do it and where one wont screw you in one way, it will screw you in another. Keep your vaseline handy and buckle your seat belt, its gonna be a bummpy ride....(I heard that somewhere):biggrin_25521:

Both KLLM and Trans Am are good companies. I drove for KLLM for a short time a little over a year ago. They're pretty good as far as big companies are concerned. I had a hard time getting home, but most of that was because of where I lived. Living near ATL you could possibly get on the South East regional and make 4 more cpm.

It's a coin toss between the two companies, but I'd say KLLM would win 2 out of 3 times.

It depends on where you want to run, here at Trans Am we run west to Denver and the southwest to Los Angeles (no northwest). But as all reefer companies hope you like the north east which isn't that bad.

Thanks Losttrucker! How long have you been with Trans Am? I've been driving with Trans Am for 2 years after delivering shhetrock for a local company for awhile.
Can A first year driver really make 46k+ ? I did and did better my 2nd year.
How is the training and orientation work? Orientation is 3 days of boredom, and on Friday you will meet your coach/trainer(rarely will anybody wait past saturday or sunday for a trainer also) you have to get 140 hours with your coach which is about 2 to 2 and a half weeks then you go back to the terminal to "test out" which follows along your employee handbook. You will also have a backing test that is really simple and then you will get assinged a truck. Overall it will take about 4 weeks overall at $50 a day and once you get your own truck I think it's .30 cents a mile.

Yeah I had experience and started at .32cents a mile and being safe is not a problem You get extra money for like stop/pick up pay, lay over pay, and per diem (.10 cents per mile) which is benefical to me (single,no kids) and my first year I stayed out 2 months at a time and ran constantly even though it has slowed this year it is picking back up. Just don't be afraid to tell them you are not here to sit at a truck stop waiting for delivery and or pick up.
