You said you tried calling the Unemployment line, good start, however, have you called your state labor board? Might be the same number, but they usually know more then unemployment dept. when it comes to issues like this.
Good Luck! -
When you collect unemployment part of the money comes from the company that fired or layed you off

Sounds like you would only be eligible for unemployment if your company fails to offer you another job after learning of your medical disqualification. If you're unable to work at any job you would need to file for disability.

I have a buddy was a 25 year trucker he developed sleep apnea about 8/10 years ago and couldn't get med card and took him about two years of red tape and " follow up" visits (read ) docters retirement plan , but he got the disability with retroactive pay and has ever since he still has the condition , I agree with pick the right doctor , I had a docter about two years ago basically gave me the card and told me she would fail me when it expired as the new guidelines for 14 would be in effect and my lower back arthritis would disqualify me, so another doctor just gave me a new one two weeks ago , they really been hacking on older fellas about the sleep apnea lately , talked to a guy the other day said the docter he saw making mandatory apnea testing for anyone over 55 ' guess I cross that bridge if I don't end up falling in the canyon first. Lol. Just tell him to go with a good attitude and try to show some pep in his step , just hope the docter is near his age , that way he would have a much higher chance to pass. Just my .04¢

It is almost as though the trucking industry is trying to eliminate having the older truck drivers on their payroll altogether.
The airline industry, if I recall correctly, has a mandatory retirement age of 60 plus, for commercial flights.
It would NOT surprise me if the trucking industry also ends up doing the same thing. I REALLY do hope that I am wrong. -
Your dad could go down to the border and pose as an illegal Guacamolian and the be eleigible to get a daily allowance, free health care and transportation and as his host you could get $40 per day.
This country is upside down ain't it? -
Oh that's nice. A doctor making an end run around employment age discrimination laws.

I once worked for the PA unemployment office. Although your answer is the best, in my opinion, even calling won't help you here. (Every state has it's own laws) The only way to know for sure is apply and then get approved or denied. The rules are so complicated and vague that even the employees at the uc office can't answer those questions.
