I work for a small company out of St. Louis. They had no problem with the fact I live in central florida.
They work through several brokers and have a few load boards, maybe 30 somethin trucks. If you had 2 years I'd say give them a call. Make sure whatever company you go with you do as much research as possiable. The more the better and make the call for yourself. Remember every company is going to have it's share of "disgruntled ex-employees" you have to weed through the drivers that are complaining because they only get 2000 miles a week but love to hang around truck stops and refuse and complain about loads. So from your own opionion but if you hear about 20 complaints all about the same thing, usually that means there's an issue with the company. Whatever you do, stay away from CRE. They hire out of Florida but you'd be better off working at mcdonalds from all the horror story's I've heard

not sure where in florida that you are located but wiley sanders out of troy, alabama has billboards up advertising $1000 sign on bonuses. I run up and down hwy 231 often and their trucks will at least run 70 mph. THAT would make me consider them if i were to be a newbie.

Truthfully, who really wants to drive some 62 +/- mph truck day in and day out? 70 or so is not that bad for a company truck.sanders does need to put some type of quarter fenders on those t800's but that is another topic-

I haven't heard much good about them but I agree 70mph is hell of a lot better then 90% of these megas that cut the truck down to 60 61 62. Then when one try's to pass another one, it's just dangerous, but all these megas have the almighty dollar sign instead of practical safety

OP, what city do you live in/near? What type rigs do you have experience with? All local correct? How long since you've drove a Class A required vehicle? Was the utility work driving a Class B?

My neighbor pulls Class A for a company out of Wildwood that does the utility industry and makes in the 70s. I know he said you have to have a clean mvr and be able to qualify for a security clearance.
