Here's the section drivers want to hear:

I added the bold and return after each sentence. It's actually part of one long paragraph. That's it for tonight. Will look further tomorrow sometime.

//In 1914, Henry Ford started an industrial revolution by doubling worker pay to $5 day; better wages and working conditions have always led to an improved economy.

Maybe Swift intends to turn over a new leaf in an industry that sorely needs it.

You know you're probably right. I bet Swift is conducting high-level meetings even as we speak, considering doubling driver pay to $30/day.

I think Swift is a little faster than 57. I work for JB and they pass me all the time.

Threading through the Letter to Stockholders...

Okay, you don't want to know Swift, skip this post. Move to next one.

SWFT (Nasdaq symbol) breaks out operating revenue and what it calls xFSC revenue, operating revenue less Fuel Surcharge.

    Revenue last quarter (Apr-June 2014)............. $1,075,900,000 (Over $1 Billion)
    Up from $1,029,100,000 last year (Jan-Mar 2013)
Up from $992,100,000 second quarter 2012

That's gross operating revenue over 3 months. A BILLION dollars plus. Kinda boggles the mind. Well, maybe not yours. Billions in each pocket. Mine aren't that deep. All I can say is... wow!!

    xFSC revenue last quarter (Apr-June 2014)..... $876,300,000 ($876 million)
    Up from $830,100,000 last year Apr-June 2013)
Up from $789,700,000 second quarter 2012

Okay, Swift's rolling in $$, like obscene. And Swift's FSC income is as much as some LARGE companies gross in a quarter. We're talking $100 million. Swift's buying lots and lots of diesel and has the FSC income to prove it.

But whaddya think they hang on to?? What do they keep?? Let's look...

Operating ratio last quarter............. 91.3% (Okay, SWFT keeps $8.70 per $100 revenue. Spends rest.)
Up from 90.3% last year (Up is not better here, worse, in fact.)
    Up from 90.4% 2012

So Swift's struggling some compared to 2013 and 2012. Costs are higher. Up a full per cent, which is a lot of $$ when you're dealing with a BILLION plus revenue. Expenses are up somewhere...

There's also a GAAP-non-GAAP adjusted operating ratio but that's advanced bean counting. Suffice that Swift claims it is PROFITABLE, something not every trucking company can claim.

    To be continued...

I don't know, the borders of the United States are basicly wide open right now, millions of millions of people coming here every single year. Swift only needs a few of those to drive their trucks and Swift's problems are solved. Two million immigrants a year, if Swift can get just 2000 of those 2 million to drive a truck Swift has no problems.

I've seen nothing but increases recently, seems everyone is in the 40's to start now...I can't believe someone there didn't notice a rise is freight not being moved and didn't move to correct it, if it caught them off guard, a hit to their stock may be the wake up call to follow the industry and pay more...

A billion in debt is manageable with a company that size pulling in the revenue they do...Maybe they wanted a correction, who knows, either way, the top dogs are not hurting(good gig if you can get it!).

    This is all so true.

Unfortunately, these rules were put out by the federal government after the 911 attacks 9/11/2001. 99.99% plus of the applicants wanting to drive a truck are NOT terrorists in any shape, manner, or form whatsoever.

As mentioned in the past, I HOPE to eventually get to a truck driving school to learn how to drive a truck. I an HOPING to be able to drive SOLO OTR to all 48 states and Canada.

In the mean time, I am trying to get healthier and more physically fit to pass both the D.O.T. and trucking company physicals. I have a lot of work to do in this area.

Also, I am trying to clean up both my MVR and employment history. I am going into my 4th. year with a clean driving record. Depending upon the trucking companies, from what I have seen both on and off the forum, one needs between 7 to 10 years of a clean driving record.

Currently, I am in my 7th. year of continuous employment, (since 4/17/2007), as a retail clerk for a major retail / pharmacy chain, earning $9.53 an hour, plus any overtime and commissions that I can get.

In 3 years, (4/17/2017), I will have 10 years on the job, providing that I do NOT get laid off or terminated.

I had "UNVERIFIABLE" unemployment for 7 months, (9/18/2006 - 4/16/2007), never having collected an unemployment check. At the time, I was helping my 2 sisters care for our elderly mother before she passed away 9/30/2007. It is easier said than done trying to get people to write a note or statement stating what you did during that time of "UNVERIFIABLE" unemployment.

Different companies, along with many different truck drivers, have given me so many conflicting answers about the 10 year work rule. Therefore, I am trying to work my full 10 years at one job to LEAVE NO ROOM FOR DOUBT. Believe it or not, it is a lot of willpower on my part to accomplish this, to achieve another goal of POSSIBLY becoming a truck driver.

By that time, I should have all other issues and problems solved.

Prior to that time, I was working for a convenience store / gas station chain from 2/26/1996 - 9/17/2006, a little over 10 years.

You truly need to check your numbers for yourself. Millions and millions is actually 400,000 and has steadily been dropping since 2006. From 1983 through 2006 it stayed at 1 million a year. But why let facts interfere in a great diatribe, right?

On the other hand, according to the Department of Labor there is an acute and growing shortage of truck drivers which makes people with no skillset that would get them legal immigration status clearly eligible for an H1B work visa. We may be seeing a whole new group of drivers.
