"The last time I checked the graduating class was less than 40 people. I do not know what the real numbers may be."
as I said, they have it right on their website - just count how many people are in the photos...
"Why do you have such a hard on for TMC, did they turn you down?"
say what? they hired me as an experienced flatbedder. I got thru 6 hours of orientation and went home. after running in place for the physical and pushing the clutch in on their antique style pete 50 millions times for their non real world backing test, my legs felt like they were about to fall off. I couldn't see lumbering around in their dinosaur truck with its sloppy 13 speed transmission and mile long hood all week. PLUS having to do all the other crap associated with flatbedding.
I'm sure TMC is a fine company, except for their ancient trucks. and they do seem to be a little too far up their own ###hole. they just come across as caring more about their trucks and equipment than they do their drivers.

You are forgetting that 40 people each week have finished orientation and need to complete 5 to 6 weeks in a truck with a trainer. I will bet that half of them quit before that is over. Once they find out that this job is more work than flipping burgers was they give up. I am glad you didn't hack it through orientation because if you had you would be on here complaining about something else. -
"Once they find out that this job is more work than flipping burgers..."
and that they won't make any more money (on an hourly basis)
" I am glad you didn't hack it through orientation because if you had you would be on here complaining about something else"
I don't recall complaining about anything. I could have "hacked" it, but remembered that I liked having a life, and didn't want to go back to not having one by riding around in a truck all week and never being at home.
potential drivers need to ask their teachers at school, your future dispatcher, terminal manager, orientation guy, and so forth why they no longer drive. -
For some reason, I find it hard to follow most of the negative posters comments. Chief is the exception but some of these guys, man...no wonder they are having such a hard time in the trucking industry, most of them can't comprehend typing the English language!

its kind of disturbing hearing all the negative comments that every one makes about any company. and i just wonder if any one actuly enjoy's what they do i was told when i was yong and teach my kids the same thing and that is if you dont like what you do for your job why the hell are you doing it!!! and i've been at this for 12 years but i hear all the negative and wonder if its the drivers not the companys thats the problem !!

There are some honest complaints, no company is perfect. What I see, mostly, is some driver has a bad expierence with a company, usually, not even the company's fault. These forums pretty much tell it like it is, you have all the information available. Drivers get to a company and find they are not a good fit with the company, not that the compay is is not a good fit with them. Because they are not self intospective they blame the company, it has to be the company, not themselves and they strike out. They try to hurt the company any way they can. Instead of giving the facts from both sides they try to make the company look bad and end up not helping anyone and damaging their own credibility.
I will be the first to say TMC is not a perfect company. I see more good than bad. While I try to portray the positive about TMC I am more than willing to discuss the negative and try to understand why they have certain policies I may not agree with. Some are beyond my comprehension because I am not privy to the inner workings of the company. -
Many policies are inplace to prevent issues with the law and drivers should know this, but often don't. Those are driver issues where the company is just plain and simply right.
Some policies directly affect the drivers in a negative manner though, and have benefits only to the company. These are probably the bigger concerns for many drivers, including those not speaking up for reasons of their own.
Overall, it really comes down to no person or company being perfect. We all have to make concessions we'd rather not. More often than not, the company benefits from it's policies. More often than not, the drivers also benefit. There are only so many "great fit" situations to any line of work.
When policies interfere with "the way it was," they're most noted and complained about... Sometimes with very good reason, sometimes not. It's only the really goofy ones that take people to the point of "goodbye" with most major companies. I've never worked for TMC and would likely go for it if they hired in my area. I don't see it as any worse than others, and I see it as better than some. -
yes but i think a lot of pepole in the industry (drivers) expect every thing to be all roses and when it isint they tend to strech things way out to the point of the impossible and i cant see at times some of the complaints being real
