So yesterday my truck decided to pump all of its engine oil onto the Cross Bronx Expressway via a turbo lubrication line. My company had another tractor brought to me, but they didn't think to check the fuel before the wrecker dragged it out of the yard. So I now have 25 gallons in the tank, and my delivery / pickup schedule won't get me past any of the major fueling chains that I know will accept Comdata / Comchek payment. So where on Long Island or in NYC can I grab some fuel and pay for it with a Comchek? My dispatchers have no idea, and I've never put myself into a position where I needed to find out.
Where to fuel on Long Island?

Hopefully someone can help you. When you find place I would drop the trl and bobtail there. They may accept comdata but not big enough for a semi. How about your company using their credit card?Sometimes desparate times call for desparate measures.
-
Ask your dispatcher to help you out alittle bit and look for you.If they don't seem concern then if it was me I wouldn't be concerned either. You got that trk with very little fuel and you're suppose to stress over it,I wouldn't.

25 gallons should get you back to the Vince Lombardi service plaza in NJ. If not for some reason, drop your trailer for a few minutes at the receiver and go to nearest station with diesel. Have the company load some money as a cash advance, pull money out of ATM and pay for fuel. This is an easy question really.
tangerineGT and pattyj Thank this. -
There's some places out on Staten Island, along the 440 towards the Outerbridge Crossing and a service Plaza going north from there on the NJT and there should be some places in Brooklyn, and the Bronx, I have seen several in Brooklyn. Probably have to drop the trailer.
I ended up going into Brooklyn low on fuel because of a deadline and card not working, and I checked the tanks several times and actually made it Bordentown to get fuel, 187 gallon into 2 hundred gallon tanks. Alternatively, on NJ 439 to US1/9 in Elizabeth, there are some more, US 22 in Hillside, and some actual truckstops with scales at Kearney. -
One time I had a similar problem; pulled into an RV diesel pump and used my own personal credit card and pumped about 50 gallons.

There is a Truck stop in COMMACK NY , North of the 495 off the Sunken Meadow Parkway ( sort of middle of Long Island )

Trying to avoid doing that. Once I start the personal credit card / reimbursement game, it will only escalate.
The card that I have is assigned to the truck itself, not to me. This particular truck is a rental, and we also slip seat. So I'm not sure if cash is able to be loaded onto it. I didn't think about Lombardi, as it is a little out of route (80W) and I wasn't aware that they accepted Comdata / Comchek. Just never considered fueling there, really. That might be the best option. Although 85 miles loaded in NYC afternoon rush traffic might be cutting it close on 25 gallons. I don't really want to be That Guy that runs out of fuel on 95 South on the approach to the GWB at 5:30 in the afternoon...
Hah. Dispatch is so busy, understaffed and time limited (they are forbidden from working any overtime) that I'm lucky to get someone on the phone most days. Yesterday I was given the phone number for the leasing company's breakdown service and told to handle it. I sat parked on Lafayette Avenue in the Bronx in a day cab from 1:30pm until 10pm waiting for the replacement tractor. At least there was a Target one block away. -
Perfect. I'm doing a drop/hook in Brentwood, and that place is less than a mile off my route.

Out of the way? If you're coming across the GWB anyway, it's what 5 miles at most south? I think Flatbed gave you the winner though. If you're coming out the bottom side you have a a few choices.
