I don't start school until 8/18 but I applied with Dot Foods in Mt Sterling IL a few days ago and got called for an interview this morning. The interview lasted just over four hours and was very thorough but I think it went well. Now just waiting for the background check to come back and should hear something with in a week. Anyone have any experience with Dot good or bad?
First interview with Dot Foods.

Talked to a few of their drivers and they seem like a good company to work for.
-
It seemed like a good company. Everyone there was very polite and came off as having very positive attitudes.
-
I talked to some of their drivers in Oklahoma DC and the main feedback I get from them is they really like the $$68K part of the job more than anything else. But then again, there are many other ways to make $$68K.

Current driver for Dot... Anything specific you want to know? ( just don't ask about pay, we're paid way too many ways to try and explain it all)
-
Component pay....pieces , stops , miles ,......different mileage rate for local , medium , and longer routes , hourly pay for break-downs , waiting periods , back-haul pay , layover pay , sick pay , discretionary day /personal day pay...what else could there be....
-
Idle, speed, CSA, quarterly bonus, profit sharing.... Yes the list goes on.
Off the top of my head here is usually what I see weekly.
Mileage pay, cases & line items, drop and hooks, pick up pay, extended pick up pay.
Other ways we get paid.
17+hr layover pay, custom haul pick up/del pay, subject to count pay, 60mph speed pay, re-delivery pay, Helping training pay, meeting pay, hourly pay, weekly expense report reimbursement ( scales, showers, etc.) 8+ day out pay, Metro pay, and I'm probably forgetting a couple more. -
3milebaywalker,
I am looking into trucking as a second career and do not live far from the Liverpool terminal. I have thought about DOT Foods as a landing spot when I get started (If they will catch me
). My only concern was if for some reason things did not work out I would not have manual transmission experience since all the trucks are autos right?
The equipment seems well maintained and they seem to have their act together. I see they hire often from NTTS which is where I plan to go. Would you mind giving me a list of pros & cons as you see it? I also would like to know how their hometime works. I want to make the best choice the first time and not job jump. Thanks -
It's been a little over two weeks and I haven't heard anything from DOT yet. I don't know if this is good or bad. I don't know how long it takes to do a background check. I got my CDL permit last week, take the physical Wednesday and start school Thursday.

I applied for a customer delivery specialist position they told me they would rather start out new drivers as transfer drivers so they get more actual driving experience. I told them that would be fine with me. They seemed to like that answer. Do the transfer driver only run between DC's?
