Ive had a Fleet Air Filter a little over 4 years. The outer foam wrap pretty much fell apart for no apparent reason I can figure(getting old maybe). So I called Fleet Air to purchase a new outer core which I had found out from a previous call was $100. Ok, it was worth it to me. Speaking with Drema, the woman who answered the phone, I was informed the design had been changed for my particular filter and she was sending me out an entire brand new filter free of charge, free shipping, and a return label to send back my old filter. Fed ex tracking info was in my email within an hour. This is AWESOME customer service. Made in the USA, family owned business. If you dont have one/two of these filters I suggest checking them out. I dont know about fuel mileage gains, Ive kept track of every tank mpg for the last 4+ years but its too hard to tell with wind, weight, terrain, and all the other factors. While the initial cost of the filter is a bit pricey vs a standard paper filter you can have your money back in a year or two I would guess, depending how often you change your filter( you probably dont change it often enough:)). It cost less than 5$ to clean and re-oil whenever you feel inclined and it takes me about an hour incuding dry time..I look at that as $50+ dollars back in my pocket for 1 hour of work. Work smarter ----- Chris50

There is a rumor going around about a tungsten disulfide spray you can coat that outer foam wrap with, and you can see fuel mileage increases from 1.2 to 4 or 5 mpg. Something about impregnated molecules, substrate applications, you know that kind of stuff. Don't quote me on that, but that's what I've heard.

I'm curious does your silica levels on your oil increase with that filter?

I bought the filter a couple of months after I bought the truck(my first) about the same time i joined here.. I was a dumb newbie and didnt know about oil samples, so I never did one before I started using the filter. Silica has never been flagged on the few ive done since. Ive heard people on XM with the filters having the host go over their oil analysis and no problems with silica, but of course take everything you hear or read with a grain of salt i suppose.

Ive also heard that Confucius say's, that man who beats his own chest has sore titties. Sorry for being an opinionated, non believer. I'll stick with paper pleated or cotton pleated filters, and change them when they need changing, not four years from now, because whoever sold them, said they would last that long and properly filter. Did you ever wonder where your disappearing foam micro particles wound up in the vacuum? Did you ever wonder if your oil coating spray disintegrated your foam? Maybe that's why you were given an updated version for free. Last but not least, when an air filter is advertised to flow more air than a coventional filter of same size and dimensions, it can't filter as much, that's common physics, regardless of what your salesman says. It's that micron rating thing. Silicon is one the most common ingredients on earth, when it's stirred up into an aerosol, it enters your engine through the air filtration system, hence the silicon ppm question on oil sampling.

Sorry but i bought the fleet air filter before i ever even listened to kevin rutherford...Although i found out about the filter from someone else who listened to him... It works on the same concept as a k & n filter which i had in my first car back in 1988. I was simply giving props for the companies customer service, take it any way you like.

New filter here in 2 days.. nice redesign, gaskets much nicer than the previous version...I had had to gorilla glue the originals after about 5 or 6 washes, these look much sturdier..Even came pre-oiled and with a full can of Klotz foam oil for the next few washes.. fleetair.jpg
