Pretty much this... If I like my assignment, have a shower credit, would enjoy some hot food and relaxation, don't feel like dealing with spontaneous BS, and have the hours there is NO WAY I would go to a terminal unless I'm going home with any mega. Don't really mind with the smaller company I'm with though... they'll let me use the car to go to town if I want or park my trailer so I can bobtail home- good times either way... for drivers that live farther away they'll even put you up in the nearby Holiday Inn so you can get a decent reset in if they're working on your truck. So I guess the real question is, do you work for ball-busting basturds or decent human beings? It makes a big difference...

Usually, I prefer truck stops even if I'm close but after 7 p.m. I'll just hit the terminal... easy parking and better than a rest area.

I use drop yards for 10's (little or no facilities, but lot's of parking and quiet). 34's are at T/S, Home time truck is in shop if needed or at terminal. This place hasn't loaned my rig yet.

Ah yes, sounds like ffe is still at it (from what an old friend says). Brian palmer loved taking my sweet loads and trying t give me something he needed moved "urgently" altho he would always hook you up if you helped him out. And yes the shop and tire guys also love to bang on your doors if they need something.... Oh and don't forget if you park in the wrong section someone will throw a fit. And i too spent a few nights snoozing in the lounge... well until some new kid out of the academy woke me up and begin asking questions.

I hated parking at terminals, and would only do it as a last resort.

Truck stops always have coffee and showers, which is always a better start to my day. They also have hot food, for those of us not living out of our coolers.

Never liked that I was always in a position to be watched when I was in a terminal. Company never had a problem with my high idle times, but the last thing I wanted to do was make it obvious just how much extra fuel I was burning.

Sucks when you wake up in the middle of the night and need to deal with putting on your boots and safety vest just to go inside to pee. Then, you never knew who you were going to run into on that sleepy walk inside. Didn't want to look like a sloppy mess if I ran into somebody important, and I sure didn't want to see another driver from my company because all they want to do is complain.

Most importantly was the whole horn thing. While I get the whole thing about hitting your horn before you back up, it ends up being a game to too many drivers in the yard. Sure, they're just trying to have a little fun in their day by laying on the air horn, but they never seem to realize that the truck with the sleeper curtains pulled has somebody sleeping inside. Can't say that I've ever had a good nights sleep while I've been in a terminal.
