So I was sent bt to pick up an mt trailer at a location where a few trailers had been sitting for a while. I was low on hours and of course the newer empty was parked behind some old ancient one. I moved the ancient one out of the way and hooked on to the new trailer. Go out to inspect it and discover that the rear axle outside tire is just resting on the rim deflated and lifeless. Well I'm stuck at the place for the night now and breakdown tells me to take it to the TA about 20 miles away in the morning. Did not have a load and was headed home so no problem, might as well fix it so that someone else doesn't get stuck with the problem.
Next morning check it and it's still flat. idling the tractor and driving down the lot I can hear air entering the tire, however, it has not bead and will not inflate. Move my passengers mirror in a position to watch it and hit the road for the TA. Ride to TA is fine, park and check it out and the #### things inflated hard as a rock. The light on the trailer nose is also now off.
Trailers been sitting at home for a week now, checked it this morning and that tire is now soft, still has bead but definately soft.
Notified breakdown and most likely will be taking it into to one of our terminals to see why we have a slow leak somewhere.
Anyways, first time dealing with that system and was pretty impressed. Certainly not an expert but thought I would mention the experience here in the event that others have first hand knowledge of the system or similar circumstances in the past.

I guess the rotation caused the bead to seat so it could inflate.
Not bad. -
thats what i figured, both sides were loose when i picked it up. parked idling i could hear air entering the tire but moving it around by hand would not get a bead...had to be the rotation. apparently a slow leak, prolly something stuck in it somewhere. will update when i have the repair/check done. a little pay back for roehl, avoids repair at TA and can now fix it at their own shop and save some $$$.

goblue, was that a tire from a dual set?

goblue,if it was my tire..................i would have the shop pull it from the rim to inspect it from the inside.

I hope you can tell us in detail what they do with it.

I used to run for Landstar and all their trailers have the auto inflation system. Had the same thing as you. Breakdown told me to drive a couple miles @ 25 mph and it should be ok. It was. Went to next shop and they found a screw in it, but it sure was nice not having to wait for road service.

That worked out well. There are some Hendrix inflation systems on our trailers and they won't air up the tire if the pressure drops below 60 psi. Almost useless.
