    THERE IS NO DRIVER SHORTAGE!
There is NO driver shortage!!! This fallacy is almost as laughable as the U.S. Marshall BS on the CB. What there is a shortage of are good companies willing to pay a decent salary to attract and keep GOOD and EXPERIENCED drivers...

... Also if there was a driver shortage the truck stops wouldn't be full of drivers looking for loads!

The problem is very clearly outlined in the special reports section of this web site titled " Driver shortage ? small wonder" it hits the nail right on the head as to why we have a so callled driver shortage. and to answer pan handle pats statement up above about bringing up an issue almost a yr old... this is an issue that needs to be kept alive and I am glad that you brought it up again.
unfortunenately I think it's going to take a major movement financialy and politicaly to get these companies to change there ways ..

to keep rates low they need at least 3 trucks available for every load there is, and since there are currently only 2 trucks for every load they are getting nervous that they might just have to pay the truckers a decent rate if it actually got to the point that there was enough freight to load the trucks on the road.

The ATA has their noses right up the butt of most of the major carriers.
