Ekkk! What was that!?

Have any of you guy's/gal's noticed any "popping" sound's coming from your truck while stopped or turning? I figured it may have been a dry 5th wheel but that's not what it is because I put on a fresh coat of grease and it still did it. My step dad has had 3 truck's that have done this. Two where KW T-600's from Wiley Sanders and one was a FL Columbia from Go-Trans. We had another Sanders truck (T-600) that when you let off the brakes on a hill the trailer would slide and jerk the truck. The sound I'm talking about mostly happen's when turning and is a semi loud pop sound when making a turn.

I would like to know. It does worry me but never could figure out what cause's it.

 

Na, it's not the 5th wheel unless the the trailer is ####ed at an angle maybe. It's not just the Freightliners doing it it's also Kenworths. I haven't heard a Pete do it yet. It's also not coming from under the front end. These sound's alway's came from the rear of the tractor. I noticed while in the shop on the Wiley Sanders yard in Troy, AL. we pulled in and had to do some work that required the parking brake to be supplied. One guy stood in between the drives with his shin's up againest the rear axle and his back side againest the front drive axle and he pushed on it and I was amazed at the large amount of movement because of wore out bushings. Over 4 inchs of travel when he pushed them apart. I looked at him and said "And I've been riding around in this #### thing!" Never will I let my truck get like that. I told my step dad after they replaced the bushings that he needed to go over to the alignment shop and have the whole thing aligned other wise I wasn't about to get back in it and leave the yard.

"we don't have the time..." Well, you had better make time because I don't feel comfortable rolling down the road after what I just saw. I got him talked into it so I felt much better when we rolled out. I still can't figure out what the popping is though. I guess it is the 5th wheel but I didn't think it was because it's done it even right after I applied a fresh coat of grease.
