Yeah, it's cool. I got a 2 year card even though I'll have to go through a whole new physical and drug test at whatever company I finally go with.

I hope we have a real good crew at school that can study,
get-a-long, and work together to help each other through this. There's a WHOLE LOT we have to accomplish in just 19 days.

    Shifty,

Have you downloaded the AR CDL manual and studied it? I Hope you know you can. It'll give you a headstart on the permit test.

Well, I have started my first day at Arkansas State # Newport's commercial driving program. This morning was mostly paperwork and getting an overview of the program. I went to the Arkansas office to pick up my CDL materials and pay my fees. This afternoon we begin studying for the permit exam.

A number of people did not show up for class so that will help the rest of us get more wheel time.

I'll try to keep posting about my experiences here as time allows. If anyone has any questions about ASUN, feel free to ask and I will try to answer with the good, the bad, or the ugly. But, so far, so good.

Well, boys, it's been over a month since you let this thread die!

How'd it go? The wife and I are thinking of joining up with Allen Freight out of Jacksonville, AFTER we get our CDL's. Was the school really $1,500, or did they have you sign a $6,000 note if you don't stay a full year or more? We're looking at going to the local community college for our CDL's ($2k apiece) so we don't owe anybody anything. We might want to move on with no strings, ya know!

I am leaving the first week of July for Drivers solutions school C1 in Indianapolis from Cleveland Ohio. Is anyone from Cleveland going there that same week that I can catch a ride with? Of course I will pitch in 1/2 of the gas :biggrin_25517:

if you go to a community college and get help from a grant of some sort and getting a cdl this way instead of having to sign a contract with a company you will be better off in the long run. this id definitly the way to go if you can swing it. definitly look into financial grants for help.

...well, yeah, I finished the course at ASUN and the full cost was just $1450.00 plus housing. I decided to go with a company other than P.A.M/A.F.S and I'm now finishing my first week with a trainer. Another 1 1/2 or 2 weeks and I should be in my own truck.

This is definitely a lifestyle change!

I don't think I can wait around for the community college classes (end of August) and I'll likely stay with my first gig for a year anyway, so I'm contacting Driver Solutions. Hopefully P.A.M. will pay the tuition, I'll get the advertised $500 hire on bonus (eventually) and have my share of the tuition (about $1100) paid off within the year (I assume they don't mind if you pay them back early). The wife called Social Security and they will likely pay for her school, so she'll wait and start the local classes at the college. Then later maybe we can both go to Allen Freight as a team, since they're affiliated with PAM. Supposed to talk to a recruiter tommorow! There may be other options for the both of us.
