TLeaHeart, OMG! That is absolutely hilarious!!! lol Makes me want to go hourly...lol

A lot of very good information along with some useful tools here. Really gives me a good picture of what you guys are experiencing.

Really like the idea of making your own maps as the landscape continues to change. Thanks to all...

I made more money on commission, than those who were hourly, and I was home more. I learned to use technology to my advantage.. between my GPS, the state of wyoming oil and gas commission web site to get gps locations, then discovered that our dispatch had the gps locations, and got them to include that in the notes for the wells, Google earth, and pumpers instructions, I learned very quickly how to find wells efficiently...

The new wells are the easiest to find, as they have new roads... it is the older fields that are a pain to get around...

so one advantage in ND, not a lot of old wells.

Then you will get the snow covered landscape, and wonder I am on the road? where did the road go?

Well, found a job hauling water with a small outfit North of Williston. Been doing some OJT, got to go to my first well last nite with a trainer. It was raining and they shut down the roads after one load, but at least got to see how the process works. So far so good, we're running on percentage and have free housing. The housing is pretty much what sold me right now. I've got apps in with some of the bigger outfits but the process takes a while, so I"ll gain some experience and see what comes up down the road.

Congratulations, and thank you for being the 1 out of 10 or so on this forum who ask questions and then actually go out and try to use that info to get a job in the oilfields, rather than just daydream about it like so many here seem to.

The fact that you took that kind of initiative says a lot and I'm sure you'll find success in the Bakken. Again, congrats.

Speaking of GPS, we sure coulda used it the other night. We were outside of Watford City and had to go to some real remote wells. We took a wrong turn out of a disposal site and took two hrs to get back on track. I've been trying to find a good gps app on android, but no luck so far.

Training out here has been going pretty good. Great bunch of guys I'm working with. My biggest problem so far is learning how to float gears. We clutched during school so this is the first time I've ever had to float. Looks so easy when the other guys do it, but when I'm on the road doing 55 another up or down gear isn't always too smooth. I'm figuring all the outfits out here must float gears so I better get it soon or I may be stocking shelves over at Walmart :)

brmac, is the company you are working at looking for more people and do they offer health insurance? If so could you pm me the info. Finishing up my resume today and will start sending out apps this week. Kinda sucks having to look for work after 24 years but have been missing ND for sometime now since all the family is there and company i have worked at will be closing in September. Want to get back to ND to learn the tricks of the trade before the snow flies. Thanks.

MBI offers 100% paid family medical coverage (and has been hiring more newbies fresh out of school lately).

Thanks DRTDEVL, I have them at the top of my list to send apps to. My cousin who runs crude for Black Hills recommended them as a start. Thinking of sending app to Rolfson for frac fueler. Do you have any info on them.

Also looking at maybe frac operator, hot oilier or wire-line with Halliburton, Baker Hughes, Sanjel, Weatherford, Calfrac although Weatherford seems ify. Have a bunch of job adds saved since I started this endeavor so going to go thru and send apps to all and see what happens. Main things is I need rotation schedule to start until I can finish my house in Cali and sell it. Will have over $100k in bank then to buy something in ND.

Thanks again to all the advice and postings from everyone as they are helping in my decisions of where to try and start working. Apps and resume are going out this weekend.:biggrin_25519:

Just wanted to give you a friendly head's up from someone who was offered a wireline gig with Weatherford: Proceed. With. Caution.

Weatherford is in shall we say.... a bit of financial trouble in that they are majorly leveraged, closing down certain divisions of the company, and are likely going to continue with the job cuts they already started in their fracking divisions considering they are not only heavily in debt, but they also bought a lot of the raw materials needed for fracking (stuff like guar gum) at above-market prices and are having a hard time staying competitive in many areas because of it.

None of that is to say that the company is in totally dire straights or that they'll be closing down tomorrow; in all likelihood they'll be fine and prosper long-term, but the research I did after getting offered the job and talking to a few Weatherford employees led me to believe it wasn't the best choice right now.

Good luck either way with whatever you end up doing!
