"If men were angels, no government would be necessary." -- James Madison

You seem very hung-up on "isms." The right thing to do is the right thing to do regardless of what "ism" it may resemble. Yes, I would far rather see people being taught to be productive rather than simply feeding them. But you cannot teach a starving person.

Would you say this was a problem with the idea, or the execution of the idea?

Various things for various problems. At the moment, I would use the bully pulpit of Congress to force Big Oil to get prices under control, under the threat of "if you don't do it, Congress will." And yes, Congress DOES have the power to do that.

Excellent! An example of "someone" who knows what is best and devises a plan only to find it is not what the people wanted or needed. Wasteful use of time, money and resources.......just like the government. Makes me want to blindly support any and all efforts to make this world a better place.

I find it astounding that you got all of that out of my asking a simple question.

I do not think that you have any understanding in how the oil market works........... Oil companies have no control over the pricing of the barrel of oil. That price is set on the open market. ( that dreaded free market thing ) Oil companies are buying the oil at market price...........

    True, but not always.

Oil that is coming from wells in the US is sometimes sold out of the country. It is then shipped out of the country and ported somewhere and then bought on the open market. It then comes back to the US as imported oil at the newer price. Oil companies have done this in the past along with many well known oil men.

So oil companies own their own wells, pump their own oil, and have to buy that oil from themselves in order to refine it?
