Hello everyone, I just finished reading this thread and although Prime has been my number one choice for some time, I am even more convinced that this is the place for me. Little bit about myself. I'm 34, drove double side dump trailers about seven years ago. Since then I had my license suspended due to child support. Recently got it back and the road iscalling me back.. Many thanks to all the wonderful people who have taken the time to write this thread and for sharing their personal knowledge with the rest of us. I'll be calling the recruiter tomorrow and hopefully be headed to sprimo very soon. Quick question I just thought of, will not having my license the past 6 years affect my application? I live right on I 80 here in northern Nevada so getting here wont be any issue once I'm on the road.

 

Well that is something to consider if your waiting 3 weeks for a trainer. Hard to pay the mortgage .

 

Another quick question I hear a lot of people complaining about this from other companies. I think the rule is more than 70 hours u need to do a 36 hour reset so when u are on the road and this occurs does prime cou t this as a day off even though you are not home? Seems that would suck pretty bad if you have been waiting to get home and days get eaten up by resets.... Thanks again

 

First, you can run on recap hours... whatever you used 8 days ago rolls over at midnight and is added back to the balance you have on your 70. A 34-hour reset is an option.

Second, no, its never counted as a day off. By any carrier.

 

Thanks iron pony I read a guys complaining about working for central Oregon and he said they made his reset his day off... But he may have been one of those winers who didn't get his way all the time and was just bashing the company... I don't really fully understand how the logs work so I thought I'd ask..... Many drivers have schedules that get them home on the weekend. That schedule counts on the driver being able to get a reset over the weekend, and start with a fresh 70 when they report for work on Monday.

 

And when u live out off the main highway and you take the truck home are you responsible for fuel or do they cover it? I only ask cause I'm like 30 miles from Eugene in the sticks and maybe 20-25 miles from I5 near drain.... Just trying to prepare... Sorry for the stupid questions but everyone I know who drives lives in town near a main highway or they leave their trucks and a hub and drive their own vehicles home....

 

When I take home time I usually have to drop my trailer just south of Portland and then bobtail home to Seattle. They don't charge me for fuel, they just don't pay you miles for that part of the trip.

If you have a place big enough to park the truck and trailer that'll make life easier when you get off of home time since you won't have to go trailer hunting.
