Leaving additional space for safety would be my guess!

I would imagine there will be more than a few of these zeroes who play this game that will get a good look of the underside of an oil pan when the truck rolls over top of them. Unfortunately there's an awful lot of drivers on cell phones these days.

That's happened to us twice. Both were merging. One guy drove into our driver's RF. The other one managed to get in front of me but she was going slow enough that I tagged her in the RR and sent her spinning into the Jersey barrier. Both were denied insurance claims and the girls' ins company paid me for a new bumper, grille and hood repair.

Makes me want to get a chrome I-beam front bumper.

Brake guarding is when you are rolling in or into thickening traffic on cruise control and hang your foot sort of on and between the gas (Go Ahead Smartly) and brake pedal without putting any significant pressure on either. It saves that second or so it takes to move your foot from flat on the floor to either pedal. I learned it when I first started driving in the early 70's when I was running into NYC and surrounding armpits every day. At that time it was no cruise and hydraulic wedge brakes that had to be pumped a time or two to wake them up.

I recently bought one for just in case. They have smaller ones with an external lense that I'm thinking about mounting to each of my mirrors facing rearward. That way no one can say I wasnt in my lane if the hit me.

I'm scared to death of losing my CDL over something I didnt do.

We just installed DVR in all the power units....

Paid off first week, side swiped on RF Quarter, and
Driver backed (30') his rig into the front of ours at a brake check..
