FYI - Kijiji in NS and NB has an add listed from Paul's Hauling ( http://www.paulshauling.com/ ). In the adds, Paul is advertising rotational flights back and forth to the east coast AND accommodations !! Now, I don't know what the accommodations are like, nor what type of plane the seats are on, but this is an example of a MB, SK, AB and Dakota's based outfit offering flying rotations and a bed. Just saying.

We keep having this discussion in this thread. Call it free therapy or free venting. I DO agree, there are those who have a false sense of entitlement to a new job with plane tickets and luxury camp rooms attached. We all know that this is a rarity. So instead of name calling and generally ripping them down, why don't we just try to keep educating them in the ways of the real world. Experience, clean records, patch tickets, KNOCK on doors in person .... etc etc. Most of these drivers learn and learn quick. Then they become productive members of their community.

Wow, now that's more like it! And yes Grande prarie is a good place but if you bring your wheels and drive on through... Stop in red deer, Edmonton, etc... More options is better in my opinion. And the fact that you have your license, driving experience and a couple tickets and a warm body in the door to their business goes a long way!

Welcome to the forum artantx. Please feel free to visit the following sub forum: http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...l-talk/258259-how-did-you-pick-your-user.html

There are those on this thread that can offer you more up to date info then me. IE - Prairie Boy frequently up dates lists of companies ( including his own ) that are hiring. Research backwards from here.

Nothing beats a keener that shows up on someone's door step with a pulse and a clean record. Your own car helps you move from interview to interview. Hinton, Red Deer, GP, Club Ed, The Llyods, etc etc. Best of luck.

If you come west looking for work oilpatch work don't even bother with Calgary, al you will find is head offices of the big oil companies, there are a couple of rig movers in the SE, but they rarely hire green guys. there is a saying in the patch in AB Calgary designs it, Edmonton builds it, Red Deer gets it to work.
And if you are showing up in person, have your PPE in your car.

So on that list are ya shooting for Home Depot or macdonalds? Lol just kidding! Lotsa good employers on the list, but honestly you'll find most of them in all the cities you could hit before the extra push to gp, if you can find the same work in red deer why drive the extra 600 km

MacDonalds and Home Depot use drivers to. Apply to the first with a picture of you beside a section of roller holding a 50 lb box of beef. For the second, get yerself a picture of yerself sitting in a 'HitchHiker' beside a curtain side bed. If he can figure that out, the rest is gravy ! :smt003

    Howdy,

Great thread, read all 400 pages.

New driver, this week I am moving to Kamloops to complete the 104-hour Class 1 course with Ray at Thompson Rivers School.

Going to apply for Driver/Operator position with Trican in Ft. St. John or Ft. Nelson, will I get to do any driving? Any green hands on here tell me something about the interview process? If I ask for specific jobs (water truck/bulk haul, I want to drive a truck not swing a hammer) will they turn me out? Do I just need to start in the mud hauling iron for a frac team and work my way into a water/long haul position?

I've only got one shot at the interview, don't want to get turned down for asking for a driving position, I will sound like some wimp who can't handle the hard work. I could handle it, but would rather drive a truck =)

    Thanks.
