Had a guy tell me that if I turned my 2006 Series 60 Detroit up to 575 and 2100 F# Torque. I could pick up an additional 0.3-0.5 and more if I put the torq up to around 2300 F# said torq won't hurt the tranny etc if you drive it right a low RPM which I do . But wasn't sure any one got any first hand Knowledge on this ?
I know now there was a guy on here that used to do the ecms on Detroit's at 575 & 2060 F# not sure on the other I listed above . Said truck will not work as hard with the added torq
right now I got 515hp and 1850 F# -
Good question. I'm not sure

What he's talking about is the torque curve... every truck is different, all depends on how it's spec'd.
I'm not sure why you would need to turn up the HP, but basically with any engine its either gonna pull from HP, torque, or a combination of the two.
The lower your RPM, the more torque you're using (think about how it feels when it first starts to lug), The higher your RPM...more HP. It's HP, not rpm that burn fuel.
I used to run a C-15, averaged 8.5 mpg following this principle...find out where the bottom of the curve is for you're engine, usually it will be about 50-75 rpm above where it starts to lug down, and run it there for optimum fuel efficiency.
And just so nobody thinks I'm that bright concerning engines, I learned this from a CAT tech when they still supported their road engines.Jar-Head Thanks this. -
Need to be careful with adding H.P. & torque to your truck. I'm sure you know this but you cannot exceed the torque value of your transmission when adding programs to your ECM. There's a multiplication table that's used that would give you the max torque allowed for your engine. I know Cummins you would multiply and divide specific numbers from your CPL, trans torque rating, rears and tire size. This equation would give you your max torque that you can tune your truck so you don't blow your transmission and have other torque related problems. I don't know the table for Detroit or Cat but it may be worth checking into.
Food for thought. -
Ringo1 is right, make sure you check your self and make sure your drive train can handle it. Might take a beating for this, but I don't care if a guys been "tearin' dow' eng'ns loonger yous bee' alive bo'" (I have heard that said to me more than once), always check with the people who designed and built your equipment, they know better than anybody what it can handle. Had guys with supposedly 30+ yrs exp with wrenches tear up an engine more than once, so sorry but show me your certifications or your exp doesn't mean crap, and I don't care who recommended you either (unless it was me of course).
And my CAT averaged 8.5mpg running with 49k in the wagon from FL to OH (potatoes), and then OH back to FL with 42k+ (bulk mail), made the turn once a week for over a year.DevilDog79 and Ringo1 Thank this. -
