Just got home from talking to a trucking school about possibly taking their AZ course here in Southern Ontario. Guy told me I would have no problem getting a job with an AZ. I asked him about all the ads stating you needed experience to apply for most advertised trucking jobs. He said that was for insurance purposes and that is why their school belongs to a bunch of different associations for certification etc. He says he has extensive industry contacts and certain companies that only hire from his school. Also seemed to give what I thought were some pretty exaggerated first year earnings in trucking. He says $60 to 80 thousand in 1st year is possible.. Just didn't seem to jibe with what I seem to be reading on forums etc. He also says there is no shortage of people with AZ licenses, just a shortage of "qualified" drivers which is what they turn out Any/or all of this sound like BS?? Thanks.

I don't know where this $60-80K figure comes from, unless he's fudging by reporting owner operator income from year one of being an owner op. You'd be crazy to go owner operator in your first year, though.

is it possible? yes. is it likely thats what you'll make your first year...no. there are companies that pays this much, but most require 1-2 yrs experience. you might get lucky and hire onto one of these companies. also...schools will train you enough to pass the dmv test. your real training start when you get onto a company and do their training period. good luck

You say you are in southern Ontario, I am going to assume that is Canada, not California. This would result in $55,000 to $73,500 which from what I have heard is doable in the US if you run hard and pull flatbed or tanks.

If he i talking $60,000 to $80,000 US I would be skeptical of those figures.

It's not real hard to estimate annual income for first year drivers:
Industry averages seem to be in the neighborhood of 120,000 miles / year. If you make something like .38 cents /mile you will make something in the range of $40,000 (all numbers in US units).

Suggesting you can make double that sounds bogus to me.

There are companies that pay $70,000-80,000 /year but not many. And they only hire the best and most experienced drivers. (Kraft, Walmart are examples). They have waiting lists of drivers with 5 years and clean records. They don't hire rookies.

I see where Old Domino and Fed ex is hiring right out of school and paying 52 cents a mile and run your tail off. That should make a guy 60-70 grand a year.

Also have heard walmart is hiring about anyone also.

Road Dog and land line reporting the biggest driver shortage we've ever seen coming with all the new changes with ELD's and tighter physical requirements.

Yes, you can make $60K as a new driver after all training is complete and you're running solo.
    Tankers/LTL/Food Service.

As "Flightline" posted, Old Dominion is one of them.

Don't know what "AZ" is. But it sounds to me (the way I read it) is the OP is more concerned about the "AZ" being a credible credential with trucking companies. I could be WAY off, since I have no experience with the term and/or letters "AZ"....except as an abbreviation for the state of Arizona.

    This is correct.

Food service guys, Sygma, Rinehart, Sysco can absolutely kill it. I know guys that have broken $100,000.00 pulling food service.

They work their tails to the bone doing it too.....unloading 20,000 pounds a day is not unusual.
