The best place to store that fuel is in someone else's tank (underground) until you need it.
I do not purchase anymore than is necessary to do the job plus a small percentage.

The only way I purchase more than I need is if I run across a smoking deal someplace which does happen.

My time means more to me. When I stop for fuel I top them off. I hate stopping and I especially hate stopping for fuel. I like to top off Friday afternoon so it's ready to go first thing Monday morning. I don't pay IFTA so no worries. Occasionally, like if I am in Florida I will only put enough on to get back to Bama and cheaper fuel but it isn't often. I get mine through NASTC and prices are comparable along my normal route. Al to Tx. How much fuel does it take to get off the highway, pull in, refuel and take off again. I wish someone would explain exactly how buying just enough fuel to do the job yields higher profits. At the end of the month if you fuel 16 times and I only fill up 8 times but we drive the same miles. I use less time and stop and start the truck less. Your profits are taking a hit. The only way this could be more profitable is if you are a company driver working by the hour.

I told him if he charge enough for the load,he could just run it like its suppose to be ran.
In think he needs a different outfit-PERSONALLY,but Hes on the board and you know how how the number/board system work. If you turn down a load you go back to the bottom until your number gets called or everybody at the top of the BOARD REFUSES TO TAKE IT ,then of course they call you again.
He says he know he should get at least $3.00-$5.00 cpm

And talking about running back on his own numbers again
Tried to get me to come on with him.

go with what sailboatjim said! I do agree with that. the other thing I did. was find out exactly what the best average fuel mileage was for the truck I was driving. then keep it in my tool box of how much fuel to purchase. use to drive freymiller nutz. I would run the tanks down to just short of dry. the other thing I would do. is take the right tank off the truck. and run one tank. and yes it can be done. it's better to have one full tank in the winter then 2 almost empty tanks that gel-up. and I did not do this at freymiller.

Why do this and how is it more profitable?? I hear you all saying to do it and also saying it is more profitable. PLEASE explain yourself.
Also if you didn't want two tanks gelling up wouldn't it have been easier to just put a shutoff valve on the return and pick-up line?
If some of you guys are really doing some of the BS you read on here you are doing a lot of unnecessary work.
Don't be leave the majority of what you read on here and only half of what you actually see.

To each their own; but this is complete B.S. FULL tanks are happy tanks..........on your car, pickup, OR truck. Less condensation, and fewer opportunities to take on crap in the fuel. Find a good stop; fill 'em up......the time you save alone is worth it. (for me)

Whatever you do, please don't get in the habit of running around with the tanks below half all the time. In addition to the condensation issues............there are the "what-ifs"........the power goes out, you have lousy weather and need to idle for a couple days, etc etc etc.......just food for thought.

I pay for fuel through Saturday. I do not work (usually) on Saturday or Sunday.
If we fill up on Friday before coming in to the house, I have to pay for that fuel in that week. The main reason I don't like it is simple.
There is the potential for that full tank of fuel to sit in the tanks over the weekend and mysteriously evaporate or come up missing by Monday.
I prefer for someone else to store fuel and I will pay for it when I need it. It takes me about 10/20 minutes tops to get in and out of a full stop.
    I do not loiter.
I'f you are running differently then your needs may change but that's the way I do it.
Look at a year of operating a truck and tell me what your biggest expense is? I protect that like it's gold.
I don't have to protect it if it's not in the truck.
It always seems like the guys that fill up last thing on Friday also fill up first thing on Monday.
I never have figured out how that happens. Evaporation rates on diesel in a truck tank here must be extremely high.

We use a website that shows what the price of fuel will be the next day.

Price rising or falling and where will I be tomorrow vs. price today where I am at = decision to fill now or wait.

Keeping tanks at minimum levels is only wise for bulk haulers getting paid by the weight.

Tell your buddy to get with the times and get online to get latest price info.

Hogwash. Fuel doesn't evaporate from a tank with the cap on. You either pay for it early or later. Works out exactly the same in the big picture. My truck is parked in the driveway though.
