What's up with truck speeds regulated to 25 on I-90?

Just kidding, i agree with you on this. who cares the speed limit is low, it lasts a few miles, we all get down the hill safely and back on our way. Enjoy the view and get over it.mikestime, joseph1135 and peterd Thank this. -
The speed limit coming out of West Eisenhower is 35 to Silverthorne and I would only go 25 if fully loaded in every truck I've ever driven Except this new Cummins. This truck has a good Jake!
but I think it's silly that I have to go 35 in an empty truck. -
Well, seeing as every truck there flew past me doing the speed limit, 25 mph is definitely top speed!

True statement but when you know your rig and know what your safely capable of doing theirs no reason to go slower than you know is safe. I live in my truck and i know every inch of it like the back of my hand as well as the majority of the roads i drive on. This is not a job this is a way of life. I'm going to preface this by saying i NEVER touch my brakes going down mountains EVER unless there's an emergency in front of me caused by someone else. I went down 5 miles of 10% grade switchbacks loaded up to 78k all the way down at 20mph and i never touched my brakes once even though a bull moose came onto the road (he moved).
I run a 12' T-660 with a ISX backed by a 10 speed with 3.55 rears.
I know if i'm 75k or lighter i can put it in 9th gear and maintain 55mph with no brakes down a 6% grade if there's no curves. I know if it's a windy 6% down i need to grab 8th, but i can hold it towards the high end at 40-45mph as 8th gear is really overkill for this position, but i don't have a 13 speed so the gear spacing is huge.
I know if i want to save some time i can run 9th gear from the top of lookout eastbound to the start of the curves and then use the brakes once to get down to 8th for the curvy section, but i decide to run 8th all the way down instead because of my personal no brake policy.
East bound-45mph fully loaded no problem no brakes
West bound-60mph no problem no brakes.
I'm willing to bet a couple bucks that the people in favor of this speed limit are Flatlanders from the East/south or just new to driving. Anyone that spends the majority of their time in the west running the mountains will know exactly where I'm coming from and you can clearly see the separation between the 2 groups when you are in the mountains especially during a blizzard.camionneur Thanks this. -
No problem until there's a problem. You new guys need to think further than "RIGHT NOW". Just because it worked Tuesday doesn't mean it'll do the same Wednesday. I'm not making fun of you. I'm not calling you out for anything. But it doesn't always work.

My truck has worked that way since it was issued to me a year and several months ago. Now if you are talking about an engine failure going down a steep grade that is always a possibility and that is why i have a NO BRAKE POLICY. Whether I'm fully loaded going down a 5 mile 10% grade with switch backs all the way down or a 9 mile 6% grade with switch backs all the way down (I've done both) I never touch my brakes. If my engine fails my brakes will be icy cool and will be more than capable of bringing me to a full stop immediately without overheating because of my strict no brake policy.
