im having some problems with my fontaine fifth wheel 6000 series...when im connected to a trailer and i want to dissconnect the trailer(drop the trailer)i pull on the pull handle all the way out.as soon as i take my hand off the pull handle it (springs)goes back in,locking the fifth wheel to the trailer...it just started happening recently...i had to get someone to pull the handle out and hold it out until i pull out from under the king pin...what is the problem?im not getting any straight answers from anyone...all i keep hearing is buy a $1000 fifth wheel plate or buy a $550 major rebuilt kit and pay 3-to 4 hours labor...im thinking theres got to be a specific part that would hold the handle out when you pull it out...would the timer spring cause that problem..there is different fountaine parts kits available countaining different part in each kit..i dont want to order parts that are not need and spend more money then needed to correct the problem....anyone know whats going on...![]()

You could just use some vice grips for the time being

i had the same thing happen to me,the 5th handle got tweeked and wouldnt catch in the open position. took he shop 20 or so min to take the handle off, straighten and reinstall. worst case is 1hr shop rate at 100 bucks and your good as new

This happened to me years back. I think it was a broken spring. I took it to the dealership and they had it fixed fairly quickly. You should be able to take a flashlight and look under the plate where the handle goes into the plate and see if a spring broke.

Hi i have an issue with fontaine fifth wheel.
Whenever i pull out the lever to unlock fifth wheel the handle doesn't stay lock outside it goes inside and lock the fifth wheel again -

Here's a couple things that might be causing the problem:
Here's what you can do in the meantime, until it gets fixed:
-
#1, mix if grease/dirt/sand under fifth wheel.
Scrape it out, lubricate.
#2, broken spring under fifth wheel.
-Flip fifth wheel, replace broken spring.
Or
- use whatever you can to hold handle.
