Hey guys, I currently drive OTR for Schneider but have a chance to drive intermodal for jb hunt. When I told my DBL he called someone and they offered me intermodal as well. Just wondering if anyone here did it. What's the pay, home time, and miles like? Thanks in advance, any help is appreciated..its a big decision.

I drive intermodal for JB Hunt out of Harrisburg PA. JB Hunt has more intermodal contracts then Schneider does and JB Hunt owns there own chassis unlike Schneider. You will make more doing intermodal with JB Hunt or Schneider then you are currently making doing OTR. Whether you should choice JB Hunt or Schneider for intermodal depends on Geography because if you live outside of Harrisburg which has two rail yards both of which are Norfolk Southern Schneider never uses either of them yet Norfolk Southern has a contract with JB Hunt and getting a local intermodal driving job with JB Hunt if you are accident free is not hard to do. I will tell you will work a lot more doing intermodal then you did OTR but it's a much better job. If you want to know more about intermodal specifics go here

If geography is not an issue then choice which one works best for you.

I'm sorry, I should have said, I work out of Atlanta.

Jb hunt pays more. Intermodal for Schneider is crap in Atlanta pay is like.33cpm or atleast thats what the offered me after i was maku ng .39cpm on the costco account before swift took over in Atlanta. But i will say Schneider is buying there own chassis now

Then I would take the intermodal job with JB Hunt because Atlanta is one of the big three rails for Norfolk Southern and JB Hunt and Norfolk Southern are in bed together.
-
That is really low...do you remember what the rest of the pay looked like?
-
All i remeber they offered was .33 cpm 2000-2200 miles a week. Layover and detention pay and home everyweek.that was earlier this year.if you reaally want a good paying job thats regional out of Atlanta area you should look into millis transfer. Great company i get home every week and sometimes through out the week. Pays good after taxes i take home $675-$900 a week give or take how i feel like running that week

Schneider pays accessory pay for containers as well. You get paid for each container you pick up, load or unloads and some other stuff. this makes up for the lack of miles.

True Schneider are getting chassis. They have warehouses around the Savannah area and I see them putting them together daily. The ones I see are grey. Not sure of how the rail is but by the first of the year the port will not provide chassis anymore all companies will have to buy they're own.
