I agree,.. While I love a 379, the 386 has a much nicer ride, better turning radius, the steering feels more secure and switches and controls a laid out much better then the 379's with the older dash.

Also,.. if you've ever driven an older T600 and then get into a newer T660,.. basically the same truck,.. the T660 is much quieter, the steering wheel controls make things a bit easier. Though, the steering wheel is still in the way for some of the gauges just to the right of the steering column. I had to crack the window before I could close the door, else it you had to slam it to shut it because the cab was so air tight.

Under the hood,.. meh. Better fuel economy and better emissions, but all at the cost of reliability and more expensive to maintain.

Lets see, new truck ever 4 yr when warr runs out on mileage. Figure $120k w/ trade in. FET, sales tax, finance ch. That's only $30k a yr. Most of the the stuff I replace on my 02 379 has no warr on a new truck, oil, grease, filters, tires brakes. And warr is only good if the Tech can fix it. Know why I never have an egr problem?

When DP filters first came out the systems were indeed unreliable but the newest generation of trucks have improved greatly. Basically anything 2012 and newer is good.

under the hood is mainly what I was referring to because that and the rest of the running gear is where the money is made.
How quite it is or how ergonomic or how many accessories I can power has jack to do with how dependable and how much money you can make in it. It would piss me off to no end to have a huge note and still have it in the shop even if it was covered by warranty. But my 99s interior is in better shape than most trucks I have seen. No rips, rattles or holes drilled where idiots mount all these accessories. All of the paint is still on the dash and trim around the dash. I see many new and newer trucks with the paint worn off the dash padding, arm rest and ergonomic switches with the little white symbols worn away. The ride of my truck is smooth and I have very little wind noise. No need to shout when on the phone. I am sure there are quieter and smoother rides but the newer trucks I have been in which admittedly is very few don't ride that much better (some yes). On the flip side they seem to lack in power.
Like I said when they start making them at least as dependable as my 99 was made then I will consider it. In the meantime I will give up some comfort for the dependability of my old truck. As long as they are still making hoods by the time they figure it out. Like I said before, older trucks are not for everyone, but if you are somewhat mechanically inclined and fix something right when it breaks, or preferably before it breaks, then you can make as much or more money in an older truck.

yeah they seem to be making it to about 400,000 now where as before they were having a lot of trouble around the 200,000 mark. At least the manufactures have figured out how to make them last to the end of the warranty period. If your business plan is to buy a new truck every 400,000 miles then they should work out good for you.

Bought my first truck 4 years ago for 15k.1998 kenworth t800 with c12. Had 1.2 million miles, everything was redone at around 1 million. Been driving local for 350k with no major issues, just regular maintenance.

Oh yeah, just lost my passanger window last night! It fell into the door lol. Got to fix that today.

When I was looking for my last truck I really wanted that engine but the only one I could find in an Argosy platform with lower miles failed oil analysis so I got a 12.7 Series 60 that has won me over.
