The person you reference should not be on the road in a truck, period.

If you get into trouble using GPS*, there's no map on the planet that can help you. You still need to do research and use some common sense, GPS or otherwise. My RandMcNalll GPS uses wait for it.. the same rand mcnally maps as the Rand Mcnally atlas, and attempts to find the most efficient truck routes.

*truck GPS's of course, GPS's that don't use truck routing will get you in trouble, but then, see: common sense

Garmin makes my G1000 for my airplane. I flight at night, through fog and sure enough there is always an airport below me when I break out of the clouds.

A GPS is just as reliable as a paper map. Both of them have to be updated. Both of them have to be used by someone with the knowledge to know their limitations. My aircraft GPS is connected to the autopilot. I have to trust both if I want to do a coupled approach. There is a over ride function if I believe that they are not giving me the correct information. With a trucking GPS the over ride function is you the driver. I have had a GPS take me down a road that George Washington has done the actual survey on. Got stuck. Called a wrecker. They pour dawn liquid dishwashing soap on the road to slide the trailer around. But I also had the GPS take me to a place that I knew was wrong, so I went the way the map said, and went down another road that George surveyed. Got stuck. Didn't have to call a wrecker. When back and Judy Garmin was right after all.

A GPS does not make your life perfect, it makes it better.

Old school.. whip out the road atlas while going down the road. flip to page 183 while going 70mph, find out where that rest area is.. completely safe.

How'd you feel about something that warned you with noise if it sees something in the blind spot. It's something I'm considering right now...
