I guess you know better. You probably can speak to the issue's better than he can. He's only a retired Berkley University professor, with the knowlege and experiance, deep in the seat of affirmitive action, Berkley it's self. When your through laughing at em. Give us your take on the issue.

Better yet "forget about it", were probable better off staying on the subject of favorite companies.

Ok first off, a degree doesnt make you smart...all it means is that you paid money to get a higher and higher degree. Myself, I have two degrees.

But yeah, lets look at his stuff:
For one, all he is doing is pointing out research and facts that anyone can look up, but thats beside the point....or is it?

So whose fault is this? As a country, we seem to rely less and less on education as it is. Students today spend large amounts of time on the internet, or playing various gaming consoles, and focusing a ton on entertainment and less and less on reading, studying...etc. As a teacher, I've seen first hand the effects of families not being together, spending time together. Couple that with values, faith...etc.

There are tons of IQ tests out there, and they can all vary quite a bit, and considering the average IQ is 100, 96 is pretty darned good. 70, in case you didn't know, is where they start to label people with mental disabilities.

This is completely stupid. So part of our sex-education is to give them contraceptives? thats like telling someone who has a gambling problem that they just won a trip to Atlantic City and Las Vegas.
Sex education should start with mom and end with dad. Schools should have it as part of a health class, but they shouldn't get involved to the point of handing out condoms and such. That will only make the problem worse.

Ok well this is dumb in many ways. First, he has no facts to back this up. Second, the Republicans (Bush) were the ones who signed NCLB into law. Third, Democrats want to change it! Schools don't reallocate resources for low achievers. However, they use various sped programs to get students with needs, the services they need. And this guy is complaining about that! If anything, students who are succeeding and acheiving are the ones who need less resources because of their abilities. Just because one is a high acheiver, that doesnt mean anything in relations to their future potential. I myself was almost placed in a SpEd class during my schooling. I have severe ADHD. To say that those who are low performing are going to produce 'less profit' is an insult to the school, community, family and of all, the student themselves.

he also never mentions how he would do this as far as finding out who has the greatest potential for our society. Again, he is more concerned about profit, than anything else.

This guy has some great thoughts, and I really like how he tries to give some solutions. If we had more "puzzle fixers" instead of complainers, we would get alot done. It can either go wrong, or right, 2 ways, and if it goes wrong, there will be another to try to fix it,...

But anyway, It is totally true about pushing people through the system, example, look at our low-income housing problem. He does make some great points, and valid points as well.

I grew up in NE (North East) PA. I moved and lived in the deep south for almost 11 years. And I have to tell you, I will never, ever, EVER live there again. I will not eat at any restaurants, EVER, from GA to LA.

There is several case studies that I found through the magazine "Scientific America" that shows how the Black IQ's are declining. All the other nationalities, especially the Mexican/Puerto Rican's are hugely gaining up on the Oriental/White's. I think I read about 3-4 different studies that were taken based on the last 30 years.

Thanks for that web site on Marty Nemko, I am still reading some of his stuff......

Your welcome. I'm glade you liked the artical enough to comment as you have. I stumbled on to the write up by accident. Our country is going "Hay Wire" to say the least. I googled "Who's Killing America" and this was one of the articals I found. The guy has phenomenal creidentials. I was astonished to hear this kind of information coming from a "Berkley University" professor. Berkley is the most libreal of universities. It goes to show us that once people are retire, and have nothing to loose anymore, they can tell the truth. I'll bet when he was at Berkley he was limited as to what he could say. Thank you Marty Nemko for speaking up. I fully recommend that every body read his artical, especially if u r planning to go see a doctor.

A degree doesn't make you smart. Agreed! Rememebr the main point of discussion started out with "Affirmitive Action". Marty is only a retired Berkley proffesor. Berkley suggest a high level educational institution. Berkley also means being in the middle of all that libreal stuff; which means he has direct experiance with affirmitive action. Retired professor, equals years of experiance, equals knowlege, equals wisdom.

There may be reasonable arguments on other subjects. Affirmitive action is the main point for this dicussion. Marty supports his position based on knowlege and extensive experiance. I supported his position with "my experiance" in one particular incident, chemistry class; THE SCHOOL FORCED THE CHEMISTRY INSTRUCTOR TO PASS MINORITIES SO THAT THEY COULD GET INTO NURSING SCHOOL, and the professor was furious. What is not clear, and true about this statement. These observations are undeniable. What must he say to convince u. What must I say to convince u. Must I give you the name of the college and the chemistry professor and the renowned Univerisity he instructed at. Stop the attempt to discredit good information. Use it as a tool to analyize the world around us. If u don't like the info through it out. I was addressing "AFFIRMITIVE ACTION" from the beginning. You cloud the issue with discussion on EVERYTHING under the sun.

From an educator to a ...non-educator, let me tell you usually how the colleges and universities work. A person who has experience in some area signs onto be an associate professor. Sometimes they might just sign onto be an instructor. As time goes on and they prove themselves to their buddy buddies in the system, they can go up the ranks to associate professor, prof...etc. Eventually they can head departments, individual colleges in the university, and so on. There are requirements often, for acheivign such levels such as advancing in degrees (aka show me the money), to get a masters or doctorate in said area. Plus they often have to write papers / thesis' on various subjects and topics in their field.

Anywho, what you describe in the affirmative action issues are a small, rare thing. It doesnt happen all over. Just as your issue happens, so does Whitey McWhite when he can't pass a test to save his life but his daddy comes to save the day. Some people earn their way, some people sue their way, and others maniuplate the system in other ways. People of any color, race can play the system, be it your skin color, your nationality, religion, appearance, weight, height...etc.

You complain about affirmative action and such, and he mentions little about NCLB. The way it is designed (which he apparently doesnt mention) is, schools lose federal funding if they don't acheive certain levels. Well, it doesnt help if Bobby, whose parents don't make him study or do any homework or learning of any kind at home, fails. So schools often pass failing students because if they don't, they will potentially lose funding.

The only problem that this causes in regards to affirmative action are two-fold. It ensures that companies are more balanced out in terms of who they have working for them, and also as a negative, it creates stereotypes and racism. "well he is Black so that means he must have affirmative actioned his way into medical school" "oh well she is a mexican, so not only is she illegal because of that, but she must have affirmative actioned her way into her job"...blah blah blah. God forbid people actually earn their way. But yea, lets quote a guy who says he was forced to pass minorities. Makes it sound like he had to pass everyone, AS IF everyone was failing? He didn't say some, or most, or whites...he just said minorities. That in itself is on the border of a racist statement.

Fourteenthly...he said he was forced to pass them. I don't nkow about you, but as an educator with a moral obligation and ethics and values, I wouldn't be forced to pass anyone. Id sure fire quit if they said that to me. I wouldn't last long enough to say that they forced me. If I quit, that means I didn't say yes'm to them only to stay employed.

Anything can be argued; perhaps endlessly. I told you what I experinaced, the chemistry professor had to pass minorities so they could get into the nursing school. He shared his anger with me. Whites were not passed if they failed they had to do the class over. This is the truth! Facts past on to you. I saw it. I knew the students. I came to know the teacher. I don't care split hairs on this any further. The professor Marty Nemko, offered his experiance's. End of story. Lets move on to trucks, Schneider, as the thread says.

I have something. Last week I called and spoke to a recuriter at Schneider. I was told they aren't hiring from AZ, this means, as I dicovered, they do go through AZ enough and they don't have an OC around here, they do have one next to Rierside. I asked about Riverside, CA, and they said yes. She followed up by saying they were only hiring, or I should say taking on inexerianced students for team drivers, experianced drivers. To me this means they r slowing do.
