I'm addicted to sleeping in my own bed every night, having a social life, playing hockey and occasionally visiting the gentlemen's club. The OTR was okay, but I'd much rather be here instead. Don't think I'd ever go back unless it was some kind of regional position running Northern Ontario.
Cody1984 Thanks this. -
When I was younger I had an addiction to the road. I would stay out months at a time and when I got tired of the truck, I got a room for a few days and got back at it. Now for me 2 weeks out is pushing it.

I enjoy the road, but I like my home life better.
I mean all my toys are at home, my kids are very important. Both are grown and out of the nest, but both still need guidance and the occasional benjies to see them through.
I do have difficulty sleeping in my bed at home when I first come off the road. Its too quiet, I miss the vibration of the motor idling, the whir of my fans blowing on me. But nothing compares to throwing on some 22 oz Porterhouse and T-bone steaks on the grill. My wife doing her twice baked potatoes and home made cole slaw and deviled eggs. Then washing it all down with some good dark lager beer. Cant do that out on the road. Well, I suppose some do. I dont risk the beer as much as I crave a nice frosty one sometimes.
Life on the road takes some getting used to. I mean I've seen Vegas 20 times,.. yet I've never once set foot in a casino or enjoyed what was actually there to do. I pass so many places I wish I had more time to stop and see what its about, yet I press on. Keep that right door closed.
I guess if I was single and didnt have a family that needed me I might do things differently. But my heart always yearns for home every time I head back out.

I don't sleep that good at home.AfterShock Thanks this. -
I usually stay out 2-3 months at a time.I'm off for 2 weeks, celebrating paying my truck off.I've been home for 5 days, but I'm thinking of calling in and declaring myself available for dispatch as soon as my APU is fixed.

I used to stay out for weeks at a time and loved it (was single with grown kids). I'd get loads through places I had friends and family. Called my self a professional tourist. Now I'm back to being a company driver, run regional and am home most nights. I wouldn't think of running like I used to but I wouldn't want to do anything else for a living. But to answer you question, yes, I still get antsy after a few days and am ready to go. After a few days off, I need to go back to work so I can get some rest.

Hahahahaha , thats great.

Back in the day I stayed out a month or longer and hated going back out because I knew exactly where I was going, back to the Northeast with a few swapping lds and splitting at a drop yard along the way.

Love both of my worlds. Want to get home when I'm gone and want to get on the road when I'm home. Lately been home every weekend 2-4 days. Enjoying it.
