It appears that US Express is becoming a team company. All of their Craigslist ads are for teams.

Theyve been primarily a team company for many years... Essentially they use solos as shuttle runners for the teams...solos will load loads then hand them off to teams and then take the teams run and go deliver it..

Ok, i'll post with the idea that i need to start somewhere and i only have 2 choices...... USXpress hands down. Automatic tranmissions-big plus for the greenhorn. Payscale is much better than weiner- i could be wrong. And after years of hearing others opinions better treatment of drivers-how much i don't know.

My advice ? add a few more choices to your list......

I am with Werner and have been since the first of the year and am happy with Werner....
I got my CDL in 2009 and got on with an O/O.. that did not go as well as I hoped... i then got on with a small family owned company pulling reefer... that had it ups and downs...

I came to Werner after talking to some of their drivers... I came over the first of the year and am happy..

I haven't heard if Werner raised their rates yet, but last I knew, USX has raised theirs recently and is significantly higher. I'd go with USX. Of course, you can do better, but they're not bad. Try to find at least 34 CPM, and someone that pays Practical Miles (USX pays HHG, a rip off). Check Crete/Shaffer, they're pretty good. Good training program, lots of miles, good equipment. Big downside is dealing with their Safety department that is a force unto itself (read: safety in the interest of saving every dime possible).

If you get 4+ months experience Shaffer will start you at .43CPM.. they did me.
They also have a Northeast regional account that pays .48CPM and home every 6 days.. with only 4 months experience required to get paid that rate.
    Info is on the site.
As long as you do your job the right way they leave you alone.
If you screw up a little they will certainly let you know about it though.

They pay Practical Miles, $30 extra stop pay and extra pay for any dispatch under 200 miles. Personal health insurance is $25 a week taken out of your check.

Werner and Us Xpress are garbage.. Last I know after you're done with training with US Xpress they force you to team with another noob for a few months to "learn some more". Of course all the while paying you a sad rate.

For noobs pick from Crete/Shaffer, Prime, Tyson foods, Millis and Maverick
At least they all pay decently to start with.
