I am a experienced driver who is looking for a change. Have 25+ years and most of those years I unloaded my own freight by hand. Lately I have been just driving and watching my body become fat from just slamming doors. Just in the last few months I have had the opportunity to pull a old 48' flat. I only had to strap. No tarps or chains. I enjoyed the little bit of exercise but admit I really didn't know what I was doing. It was just freight on pallets so it wasn't rocket science. I find myself looking at all the flats that I see. Checking out the tarps and chains etc. I'm 49 and really starting to hate the vans. I enjoy a challenge but I also need a decent paycheck. From what I can see from Melton is I will start at .45cpm but will be home a lot less then I am now BUT I do like the fact you can bank your time. Go trucking for 6 or 7 weeks THEN some real time off. I live in the DFW area so I think it would be ideal area to get home when I needed to. I did talk to a recruiter today. She said 2300-2500 miles. Not sure just yet. I have some major bills to pay every month. Any Melton drivers tell me how much their gross income is a week? Or month? Don't need to hear the net income cause we all have different things coming out of our checks. Like now I have 11% 401k coming out. Thanks and Runwme grats on taking the bigger challenge and not taking the ez way. IMO hardworking people are happier.. I always was

Dont think you'd regret coming to Melton. They do match 50% on 401k up to 7% and fully vested in 3 years. They have great securement instructions program. I'm new so can't answer your questions but they told us freight slows down for flatbed over the winter so that is something to consider for your timing switching if pull the trigger.

Do you get to wash your truck at blue beacon or just at the Melton Yards
-
Every 21 days it is paid for at blue beacon or we can do it anytime we want at the terminal

I am considering flatbedding after getting my CDL and it's good to know where to apply. Is $40 tarp pay for both tarp and untarp, or is it $40 each? When you mention 120k miles, do you wait 1 year and get a bonus if you hit 120k? I'm assuming you start at .36, but then it will increase after 3 or 6 months.
-
.36 to start .39 after 3 months and continues to rise until you hit 120k melton miles.
20 to tarp...20 to untarp 25 each additional stop if multistop.Night_driver Thanks this. -
That's not bad. I'm guessing if you tarp, then you have to untarp as well, so $40 per load. Do you know how long it takes to tarp on the average? I know it depends on the load, and about what % of loads need tarping?
-
The only loads that I have tarped so far have all been pipe loads. Takes me about 30 mins to tarp and 20 to untarp and roll up. Id heard you average 30-40 bucks an hour wiyh the tarps. Some can get nasty I'm sure though.
