I'm no Sherlock but I'm pretty sure that "I will never work for a company based in the south ever again" includes companies only. Not the people.
-
Well, depends on how you'd like to take it. I'm not a big fan of running south, I've worked for southern based companies in the past. My opinion is obviously my opinion. And I pull no punches, especially with all the northern hate I hear, so, I guess it is what it is, right??
Back to southern based companies, most don't understand the Pacific Northwest and it's a mere afterthought. Most of those companies do Midwest to the south and northeast. The Pacific Northwest is not a strong market for them. A PACNW driver will see home in the winter because a lot of the drivers don't want to chain or see the bad weather that is up here. In my opinion it's just better not to work for them unless you live in the south. -
I have many southern fries friends. Some of the southerners get testy when they think you're speaking about them, all the while dissing Cali and the northeast.HotH2o Thanks this.

I know what you mean bro. If I had a nickel for every time I was dissed for being a Californian I wouldn't have to drive!joseph1135 and Lepton1 Thank this.

In two years I've only had one time sensitive home time request, and they came through. Other than that a day or two before /after is OK with me.
-
Wow never had this problem but never worked for a company that did not have me home 90% of weekends bet in all the years pulling van missed 3 weekends and since pulling flat only 2 so far but I guess some can stand to be way from home longer.
polarisryan Thanks this. -
Polarisryan, do you think your lack of experience affects your home time? like veterans with the company get priority? I will be moving to Portland next year, and I am looking at becoming a truck driver.
But like you, I want to get home time also, and not be an afterthought! Maybe a company in Oregon/ Washington will get that time you need? Thanks, Sportz -
I honestly think it's just my current company, and the regions where most of their freight is. When I'm on the road, I am rarely west of I35, with the very occasional California run. In fact, when I do get a load going home, it's been from the same place every single time (Mars/M&M in Victorville, CA), so they don't seem to have a lot of options headed to the PNW. I do think it'd be less of an issue with a company based in the west, particularly one that runs the I-5 corridor.
Normally I don't have a lot of issue with being home late, as I never really make solid plans. My patience has just begun to wear thin, so I was curious if this was a normal thing across the board or not. -
I am home every night.
