I've got Michelin XDA3's as well. They've got 250,000+ miles on them, and still have 8/32" tread, but I'll be replacing them based on age alone.
Keep them under 75mph at 110psi and they'll be happy.
Also, I bought some virgin kellys for my trailer, and they're total junk. Couldn't pay me enough to put that kind of quality in a steer position.
what brand steers do you use?

Michelin XDA3+, Counteract Tire Balancing Beads, (they allow the tires to operate at 12 degrees cooler operating temperature, while continuously balancing the tire). I've tried the cheap Chinese brand Ling Long, Goodyear & Kelly. My tire preference is Michelin for mileage and reuse by retreading the tire up to 3x's.

You guys need to be regroving those virgins before you get them recapped. You get a whole near new tire for about 25 buck to have it done. Irons are pretty cheap too they pay for their self in 4 tires.
So am I considered old school or cheap for doing this or are there others?double yellow Thanks this. -
Michelins XZA3 and Centramatics

Anybody tried the newest Chinese brand; Goodluck's
KCLLC Thanks this. -
I use Michelin XZA3+ and Centramatics. They are the best, longest lasting Steer tire Combo you can run on your truck, pricey but the tires last.

B.F.G on steers and Kellys on drives..
Totally agree with the comments on the Kellys being JUNK. cant wait for those ill wearing P.O.S.'s to come off for my new Michelin winter tires. -
Xza3+ are awesome tires.

XZA3 w/ centramatics. 218,000 mi with 7/32 left. Coming off due to outside wear because of a suspension component wore out. Im putting new XZA3's back on.

Anyone else find the Michelins/BFGs (same company) cause increased wear where they seat on aluminum wheels? They use a softer sidewall, and it seems like that allows the tire to work more and wear wheels, faster. We have a 2012 Cascadia with 55,000 miles on it, and we took off one of the original XZA2s on Friday. That tire was worn out, and the wheel already has a groove in it... 55,000 miles!!! I also find that Michelin casings weather crack badly. Maybe not the first time around if you use them up fast enough, but I have 4 sets of Michelin 1st time retread drives to take off this fall, and I wouldn't even consider asking to have them done again. They would probably get rejected, anyway.
We've been using Goodyear G395, 399 and 399a for the last 18 months or so. They aren't giving exceptional numbers, but they seem to wear a lot straighter than the Dunlops we were using, before that. And, FWIW, I wouldn't consider installing a steer tire without either a liquid or bead balancer. Idk how much they help, but neither is expensive, and why not re-use them in the next tire?Last edited: Oct 12, 2014
